What winch do you run?

What winches are you guys running? Would you buy it again? If not, what would you buy?
An 8000lb winch seems to be the bare minimum, and while it may work it seems every pull would be pushing the winch. Is this a correct assumption?
Are there any drawbacks to going with a 10000lb+ winch?

I ask because I'm looking for a new winch because I sold my Warn Tabor 9K. I've looked at so many winches my brain is numb. There's the industry standards like Warn and Superwinch, but there's also ones like Runva and Engo that are quite enticing with their synthetic line package deals.
I would like to get something faster and better quality. A higher load rating would seem to make sense too, but IDK.
Just trying to get a feel for what guys use and their thoughts.

I went super high end- Superwinch LP8500. I know that it seems like a lot of money up front at $299.99 with free 2 day shipping on amazon prime, but it really pays for itself after a while.

Literally... I have paid for it with a few paid recoveries.

But seriously spend your money on a real winch, this one works great but I don't know how long it will work for.

I have a Superwinch 9500 that Ive used it a handful of times. It worked well and never seemed to strain the motor.

M8274. Picked it up from a friend who had only used it a handful of times for fairly cheap. If you look, then you can find good deals on them. They're easy to tear apart and inspect for wear, plus you can order any parts you need should it need a rebuild.

It's not the prettiest thing on the front of a rover, but it gets the job done.

Edit: I assume this is old news, but I should add that you'll most likely have to modify whatever bumper you're running.

Warn XD 9000i with 100' syn line from Viking Offroad. Purchased from a guy on DWeb about 5 years ago. After cleaning the rust off the planetary gears (think it sat for a while) it has worked every time.

I like a winch that stops spooling quickly. When I let go of the switch, I don't want it pulling in another 3' of line before it stops.

Kyle, does your Warn have the LR logo printed on the sticker near the clutch lever? Mine does, and it's the only one I've seen with the Rover logo on it, and can't find any info about LR offering them as an option.

Any info you have would be great to see.

Warn 8274 or HS9500 (if you can find one). For the typical person who is more likely to use it to pull out a shrub i'd suggest an M8000 or something from Warn's new VR series. The only differnce between the VR series and their regular line is that the motor is made in China. everything else is still american.

Another note on my 8500- I almost always use a snatch block unless I literally only need a small bump to get over a log or something. Very helpful in reducing stress.

8274 won't fit my bumper unless I want to cut my hood about 2".
The VR has the standard Warn solenoid 4-pack whereas the better winches Warn offers have the single contactor, aka Albright solenoid.

I'm running a Smittybilt as well. As is typical, I have used it for recovery a whopping one time since I bought it. Otherwise, it's dragged a couple dead cars around my neighbor's property and moved a few trees off the trail. It's been handy but never essential.

Superwinch EP9 w/synthetic, been using it for years-quite a few self recoveries and some protracted time as winch bitch at some events for others-no complaints at all about the durability and the price is pretty damn good.

it came OEM on a 00 range rover vitesse (great divide then LR equinox school) truck.

has a slightly different solonoid cover, plus had a different clutch release knob to clear the winch mount. remove plug was also seperate. i believe it also had a LRR or STC number on it but that has long since gone, and i broke the knob with a crecent wrench trying to get it unsiezed....
crapy pic but this is what it looked like...

I'm still fairly well set on the Superwinch Tiger Shark 9500. $350 shipped from Amazon. I'll upgrade to synthetic line sooner or later.
