Not sure if the wheel well is the same on LR3/lr4 but I have an lr3 and run the 265/65/18. I have the lift rods but I did run them for a free months before I got the rods installed. They fit, barely, rub at full turn and the spare you have to get creative for it to fit.

The difference between 3 and 4 with tire fitment is the frame horn interference on a 4. This limits it a bit but I believe the 265/65/19 will fit a 4 if you add a bit of lift via GAP or RSW tool (get one if you haven’t already). A 255/60/19 (31”) fits fine at stock height. You’ll need to deflate the spare to some degree for anything larger than 31”

Bill, your next size in 19" is 255/65R19. The last thing you want is going wider.
The tires rub on the LCAs and front frame horns at full lock. If you use rims with large offset, the tires won't stuff in the wheelwells (they barely fit as they are).
And yes, even 255/60R19 won't fit in the spare tire opening. 255/55R19 fits but you may have to air it down a bit.

Most folks who install 18" wheels on the LR4 (Compomotive PD1880/81 with ET44 or even LR3 or RRS OEM 18s - but the latter ones only fit with spacers) run either 285/60R18 or 265/65R18, very similar in overall dimensions, as there are many good choices in those sizes- including E rated - and 31.5" is pretty much the largest diameter tire you can run without some sort of lift on the LR4. Especially when new, the front tires will rub slightly on the frame horns at full lock (my horns kind of "wore out" over time due to such rubbing), but will still allow you to drive away should disaster strike one day, the air suspensions crap out and you find yourself on the bump stops. The spare will need to be deflated and I also had to remove the heat shield separating spare wheel well and exhaust to winch it up, but it fits.

Lift rods trick the EAS to "artificially" raise your car 1.5 to 2" all the time, that's about it. Lots of cons about driving around lifted like that 24/7. There are electronic modules that can do the same more elegantly - at the touch of a button (LLAMS and MudTech, there may be others) - so you only lift when you really need to. Or get an IIDTool from GAP, it costs a bit more but can do that and a whole lot more.

I’m also going to get the spare on a swing away rear bumper, a la the tactical rear bumper option.

This is all great advice, I really appreciate it guys.

It feels “new” again like it did in ‘99 when I joined DiscoWeb with my new-to-me ‘96 D1 and then again in ‘08 with my ‘04 D2.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

Took the new LR4 on a little family camping trip this weekend. 80 miles pavement and 75 miles off road. Nothing too crazy but shit you wouldn’t do without 4WD and good ground clearance. I scoffed at air suspension but damn, what a nice ride. There’s also a shit ton of storage room back there. Makes my 2004 seem like a D90 in the cargo area. Daddy’s happy. 18-inch wheels, more aggressive tires, and then some armor and bumpers are next. 284EC7D5-8401-479B-9820-3C72A3536E06.jpeg9EEE99C1-3D9A-4303-A82A-4151B7EA325E.jpegA3E43EF3-7081-4AC5-9E59-060D1D2C6B12.jpegA8FA0770-B176-45CF-AFDE-8AD4D64A8AC2.jpegF0953861-8462-4E42-A67D-6F64B2EFED4E.jpeg6E67D4AE-3DE1-40D3-B304-FF3D33DD8114.jpeg

Hey y'all,
I know this has been beat to death here and elsewhere as I've spent a while reading all of it.

One answer I can't find though is , in the Duratrac 255/65/19 (32") ,
how much lift is necessary (I have a GAP iid tool) for ordinary driving with no rub?

Anyone know that one?

It’s a narrow-ish 32” tire so you’ll need a additional height. A number of people are running these on LR4’s with lift rods (2-2.5”) but think you could fit it at a lower height. Just break out the gap tool and play around with it

Thanks Howski,

Anyone actually using this size (255/65/19 duratrac) that’s reading this? Wondering how low I can go (1” only works or if needs 2” for driving...)

Bumping this.. I'm torn between the 255/65-19 GYs and some Toys AT3s in 255/60-19. I know the Toyos will fit, a few people posted pictures. But I'd rather have a bit more tire. I've seen them mounted on LR4s with dumb huge rod lifts, so I guess they'll fit fine. If a part of the truck needs some sawzall, that fine. Haven't bought a GAP tool (yet). Dont plan of using rods at all.

I’d recommend a GAP tool and maybe bumping the height with either. Not sure the 65 sidewall will fit without a lift.

FWIW my Goodyear’s have held up well but the tread isn’t as aggressive as I’d like for the terrain in my area (mud). Only issue I’ve had was recently running over some razor blades while out on a jobsite. Luckily got a great replacement warranty from the dealer

You’re running the 60s? I might just end up with the Toyos.. less stress getting it all fitted and working and I think they’re a better tire.

Yep, 255/60/19 which I don’t believe is being produced anymore. My replacement was new old stock with similar date to the rest I got over 2 years ago. It will fit without issue at factory height though I have mine bumped up 1” or so just for hell of it
