    diff slop

Took off front driveshaft to discover that the front diff may have too much play. I can wiggle her back and forth about 3/4". 'Anyone know how much play is unacceptable? No play at transfer case. Thanks.

    High idle

Simple quick test for vac leaks: 1. Open hood 2. Start Rover 3. Spray some carb cleaner around top while engine runs 4. If there's a leak, she'll suck it in and her idle will surge.

    transfer failure?

Unlocked as we've no dash light lite. Locked or unlocked, high or low, thing is that she'll drive if the front drive shaft is installed and wont drive if she's removed. I'm thinking that what I may be looking at is the tcase rear drive gear? Never cracked one open but I've installed 2 in our...

    transfer failure?

Right, I should've mentioned that I reviewed all gear knob positions. Futhermore, I just reinstalled her front drive and she does now drive. So back to the LT output gearing?

    transfer failure?

Drives sortof shakey so I removed front driveshaft thinking that maybe it had been knackered or perhaps in need of new ujoints. Went to drive her in 2 wheel drive and she doesn't move -Just sounds like transfer case gears grinding. Our Disco may have failed in its transfer case and I'm not sure...

    knocking

Anyone here ever try a lifter install without removing the heads? Anyhow, my son suggested using Seafoam in both the tank and intake because the knocking reminded him of a bad lifter. I did install new ones but perhaps one was somehow bad and didn't take to its oil pre-soaking or perhaps some...

    knocking

Our D1 needing rebuilding due to her knocking and jerking ride. After her rebuild her knocking and jerking continued. And I don't know why. The rebuild included the following new items: new timing chain & gears gear drive new dizzy lifters con rod bearings new main bearings rings complete...

    knocking after rebuild

I removed both manifolds to install new exhaust gaskets at the head and to the pipes in hope that my problem was due to leakage - It isn't. Took 15 mins at idle for the knocking returned. Could the cats cause the knocking? Temp wise they read very close to our other Rover and even if they...

    knocking after rebuild

Yes the knocking seems to diminish with rpm. I do own a stethoscope yet like you've pointed out, sound travels in mysterious ways. Sounds as if a con rod bearing crapped out but that isn't the case. If the fly wheel is cracked as you have suggested, then I should be able to see that by...

    knocking after rebuild

    D1 95. Don't think it's a sleeve liner as it doesn't knock till warm.

    knocking after rebuild

She's knocking and it sounds as if it is coming from the Sump area. I rebuilt her with: New rings New timing chain and gears Main and rod bearings New flowmaster and back exhaust All her lifters looked good. Anyone any idea why she might be knocking? Happens after she warms up only. If oil...

    95 rod bearings

Good question - STD bearings were used as STD were previously installed. No plastigage measuring was done - Just a feeler gauge in between rods.
