Follow up: I swapped out the master cylinder, then the booster, then the ABS pump. None made a difference.
Today I put on new calipers and that solved the problem. Thanks all for the suggestions.
I recently picked up a new 98 D1 with a very stiff brake pedal. You have to push harder than normal to get it to stop.
Pads are good, fluid was dark so I flushed and bled the system (which helped a little), but it is still harder than it should be (this is my second D1).
I checked and there...
Looking for an AEL (1998 D1) fuel pump housing. It doesn't need to have a working fuel-pump. The fuel pump is brand new in mine and I can swap it in, but the exposed portion of the connection pipes are rusty and have sprung a leak.

Wife got a new job so it seems in a few months I might be moving to the Salt Lake area.. anyone know of any local LR clubs out there? I searched Google and came up with bupkis.
Am really looking forward to getting back out west (used to live in CO about 10 years ago and was a member of...
**UPDATE**
Just as a PSA, when testing a relay, be sure the relay you are using to test with works! :)
I found the problem was simply the starter relay under the passenger footwell was bad. I had previously checked this, but the relay I used to test was also bad! So after a lot of head...
I jumped it right on the starter. I am sure the switch is good because i put a test light on the starter relay in the passenger footwell. When I turned the key to the start position, the White/Red wire coming into the relay got power. Of the 3 other wires coming into that relay, one other (i...
No, I have not scaned for codes... no reader.
Lets say just for s&g's that the CEL bulb is blown, then would that point to the spider as the problem?
And as a side note, the CE light was working on Saturday and it would roll over just fine.
These problems didn't start until I was tracking...
Ya, grounds appear to be good. I checked the ones by the relays in both footwells. Any others I should look at?
As far as the spider, correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the spider kill the fuel pump and not the starter? I really dont want to pull the dash apart if I don't have to. Blah...
98 D1 No crank **FIXED**
Hey all, been a while since I've posted.. was hoping to get some ideas as to what is going on.
98 D1 Auto trans.
Engine will not crank over.
No check engine light when I turn the key to on position.
Good fuel pressure.
No power is getting to the starter solenoid...
Nice story... At first I thought it was my rack that was stolen. I was about to head out and kick some ass.
My question is HTF did 1 person lift that beast off the plow truck? Damn thing must weigh 150lbs.
Here are some pics when I installed mine. Fairly easy install and they can take a beating. I personally liked them better because they are not tight against the sill to trap the NY salt. Just my $.02
Close.. 24 spine in the back w/ the Detroit, 10 up front w/ the TT.
The Scout got out of control and I had to let it go. It reached a point where it wasn't as fun to drive because nothing was much of a challenge. Just kinda point and click your way over stuff :D
