I am running into some extra money:) Well that means a new toy:)

Here is what I had in mind and trying to bounce some ideas to you experts.

One I would like to start my build with a disco rolling chassis. A nice solid 4.0 Zf and Lt230. To top this off a nice RRC 2 door classic body.

A few points.

Can i use standard non-abs axles on the D1 rolling chassis ?
Would 4.10 be nice with 1.00 Tcase ratio

I would like to use ARB lockers, an electric winch (yes a warn  ) max 2 inch lift, with very soft coils and 32 with cut fenders and flared, some protection.

For ecu, I would plan to go with a megasquirt, but as a rolling mod.

If money permits a roll cage, and a nitrous (after megasquirt is functional)
Dual battery setup and relocated in the rear of truck and a rear facing winch, an air tank and the bigger oil coolers. Maybe the bigger oil coolers will be done right off the bat.

Guage, well on my 87 I fitted the mustang A pillar guage cluster which fits beautifully. Oil pressure, oil temp, water temp, vacumn nice to have egt, o2 reading and tranny oil temp

Ohh AC must work big time and so does the heater, plus a cup holder for my expresso

what are your thoughts on this ?

Well its seems that I can source an 81 2 door rangie and a 96 D1 in running order.

Given an unknown state of the D1 running gear and power train, especially a tired 150K + engine.

Would it be cheaper to buy a fresh complete 4.0 with ancillaries, than rebuild the complete 3.9,

If I am going to rebuild I want to have reliable components in the truck.

Guess my budget is going up.
maybe just getting a very low milage D1 99 would be the way to go, heck of alot cheaper.

why not a 4.6 if you have to tune the megasquirt anyway? nitrous seems silly, its too easy to trash these engines without power adders.

and as far as the 3.9 vs 4.0, I think I'd go with the 3.9 since its already got the timing cover you'll want for a distributor. they are both 3950cc engines.
