Why is it that people include the price of any and all maintenance (on this board and others) as justification of why they price their vehicle so high? Doing those things are necessary for you to qualify your your vehicle as a certain condition (excellent, good, fair, poor) Any vehicle that looks great and has never had any regular maintaining is suspect. What I see from your CL ad is a guy that had a bunch of probs come up with his high mile truck and ponied up some dough to fix the big problems and now is trying to move it...and maybe take a sucker for some hard earned clams. That's just the feeling I get reading your ad. What you should have done is spend a few minutes trolling the F/S ads on the board. Most people who sell their trucks get a good idea what similar trucks are going for (on this board), make a clear list of all positive aspects and include a very clear list of any problems that the truck may have.

Example: If I were going to list my truck it would say something like...
04 tangiers
the good:
71,xxx mi.
ome 2"
bfg a/t 265/75
arb MM 8,000lb, 2 hella 4k

the BAD
t/c slow leak
driver's heated seat not working (have part can fix)
pass ft window needs new regulator
windshield should be re-sealed before next winter

asking $XX,XXX obo.

If I were really serious about getting rid of the truck to make some cash, i'd ditch the names and goofy crap and get down to brass tacks. Personally, something doesn't compute. You have a mid $8,000 offer and turn it down...I was getting local offers barely above that with my truck last year with 60k miles. Good luck with the sale and all, maybe try the nickel ads locally or fleabay for the price you think your truck commands.

One of the best things about DiscoWeb is that the shit gets flushed regularly. All personal bashing aside, you can be sure that what you buy (or what technical advice you follow) on this website has been pretty well vetted by people who actually know what they're talking about.

Everyone wants to sell for the highest price and I don't blame the guy for starting large, but citing KBB value of over $5K for an old D2 as Fact is ridiculous and needs to be corrected.

I think roverman finally gets it. He had to make sure he got a proper swirly first though. Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid, than to open it it and remove all doubt.
Its true, its deja vu, another turd gets flushed. Kinda reminded me of the Leif Garrett kid.

I am in that boat too, my truck is not worth selling and it has had alot more care than most any other D2 on the road.
Does that care include submerging it to the windows in muddy water?
That's care a truck can do without.

Reality is what it is........ down to Dweb price? People sell trucks for more on CL, Ebay, Local Paper ETC all the time.. Open forum means open opinions........ so good bad and ugly are allowed and will speak theirs minds. Good luck to the seller and let the comments keep on comming. Some and myself used to get tired of the comments. Now I see it as funny and a free bump to the ad.......

Cheers

I love the discourse. Let me answer some questions.

First, he's named Watson in homage to my grandfather who is now deceased - he helped me finance the vehicle originally.

Second, this site is just an ego let out. Most of you deserve the uppity LR reputation.

Thirdly, when I came to this message board I was looking for any opinion including those who are less than articulate. Which, sadly was most of the responses. I'm glad that such a simple topic spurred so much talk, I feel somewhat proud to have been the catalyst.

We as Disco owners need to stop devaluing our rigs and start working together, that is, if some will get their pompous heads out of their asses. It's a vehicle like any other, stop glorifying yourself.

Thanks to all who used logic and realized the real point of this thread, it's really sad that grown men need to flame fellow enthusiasts so they can feel good through idiocy and self-righteousness and false pride. (Of which I even fell victim to in retorting to that flamer)

Thanks again! The input was appreciated!

Fact: I should have stayed in school
Fact: I should have went onto med school
Fact: I like girls
Fact: I like beer
Fact: if I thought I could have gotten 8k for my truck I would buy girls and beer for all my friends
Fact: if I turned down 8k for my truck I would give up beer and most girls would laugh at me.
Fact: I'm getting thirsty

Yeah, it does. all the affected items have been replaced too, so its a much newer truck now too....

It wasnt that muddy, more sandy and I was in and out pretty fast too....

And it was 40k or more miles ago too.....

I still stand by my statement that my truck is in better shape mechanically and probably physically than most other rovers on the road (or off)

That's underachiever talk. Fuck that "stop devaluing our rigs" talk. We all need to work together to ramp up the market for our rigs. I'll give you $25,000 for yours Blue. Together, we can make a difference.

FACT:

The value of ANY vehicle is what someone else is willing to pay for it.

FACT:

Compared to the overall number of people looking to buy used Land Rover very few start their search on Discoweb.org.
