143000 mi. Mostly stock. Has a custom made baseplate for flat towing on it. Engine runs but I can't spend any more money trying to figure out why it idles at 2000 rpm. Tranny has problems too, so this is a good rolling chassis with good tfr case and rest of drive train. Most body panels in great condition. Pass. side has some scratches and scrapes from going through a barbed wire fence several years ago. There is surface rust on the frame, and rust on the a, b, and c pillars.
Steering box replaced about 5 years ago.

Brakes completely upgraded to Defender Style Brakes with EBC pads last year. Front rotors are slotted, drilled and vented with new calipers. Rear are standard rotors with 2 year old calipers. Stainless flex lines at all four wheels.

Suspension is one year old, from Rovers North, and is stock height, with Bilstein shocks.

Many additional parts, including a second set of front seats, additional a/c compressor, p/s reservoir, and several of the dash switches. (I always picked up a few extra items when browsing the junk yards.)

Heads were redone professionally by the shop the local dealer uses three years ago. They have only about 5000 miles on them.

New MAF, IAC, TPS. yeah, and I still can't get the idle down to normal!

Asking $1000.00. I already have a replacement for it as a daily driver, so the plates are coming off in the next few days.

I am in the Rochester, NY area.

If interested, send me a PM. Will answer any questions, and happy to send more pics of what you need to see.

Hi Will:

This is the basic story: Engine started idling at 2K on and off about 5 months ago. This is my daily driver. So, at certain times, I would be sitting at red lights, standing on the brakes while the engine is straining at about 2k rpm. After a while, I also started having some tranny problems, with it shifting irregularly. I took it to my local dealer to have them change the tranny filter. After that, it sort of settled into an operation where, when I get a green light, it has to rev to about 2k to start moving. As well, it has no familiar "clunk" when shifted into drive, but it does do the familiar clunk when put into reverse. My best guess is the clutches are worn out from the straining. I just picked up a 2002 Honda Odyssey for $1k, that we can use, and I am either going to take the Disco off the road indefinitely for many repairs, or sell it. I took it back to the dealer after replacint MAF, IAC, TPS. He said the system had to be reset after the new IAC went in. It worked fine for a day, and then the CEL came back on, with OBDII saying its a P1179 - Fuel and air metering error. It seems to be idling fine, but has a little hesitation when I hit the gas.

What's your assessment? I need someone who knows what they are doing. I am at a loss.

No it was at 2k in park or neutral. Once in gear, it was at around 1250 or so, but trying to get back to 2k. I didn't keep putting it in neutral because I was afraid the drive line would break somewhere like a U-joint.

So, you think the ECU caused the engine to idle, right? Not that weak forward gears are from that? Did I get that right?

Sorry, I am a little slow on this stuff. I am not a mechanic by any kind of training, other than from owning this truck.

I think you have an ecu problem if when they reflashed it the truck ran great for a day or two.... If it were mechanical it should stay whether the ecu was reflashed or not.
