2 Days after OME install...

I installed an OME lift this past weekend on my 03 Disco.
I put 751's in the front and 762's in the back. I have the OME shocks in the front, but due to an error in shipping, I had to put the original stock shocks in the rear until tomorrow.

I replaced the hurricanes with stock DII 16's with Goodyear MTR's 235/85/16's. (truck looks great and did awesome out on the trail)

I went out yesterday (sunday) and did a moderate trail out here in AZ.
I am now experiencing a wierd feeling when I accelerate, almost as if the truck pulls to one side when say turning right from a stop sign and accelerating. Could this be the steering dampner?

Also at some stops it almost feels as if the truck "slips" when comming to a complete stop. This usually happens at slower speeds. I checked all bolts, etc. when I got home and nothing is loose.

I noticed that the bottom of the front spring housing has a small recessed area that faces in. Does the start of the spring need to be seated in this area, or can you simply put the spring in any which way? Perhaps the sring is not seated properly?

Any ideas? Will the truck handle this much differently with the new springs & shocks? I wouldn't think it would.

All 2 Cents appreciated....

I bought all 5 for $500.00 from a friend in our Rover Club. They came off his D1 and had less than 10K on them. The DII can carry a wider tire so when these are worn out, I'll upgrade to the wider tire.

You think the tire size can cause this?

The tires were on for a week before the lift and I never had any issues there...

I appreciate your help.

Maybe? A 235/85 is a skinny tire on an 8" wheel. Steering dampers seldom go bad and should not affect handling even if removed. People just hope a 65 dollar replacement will cure their handling issues instead of getting their hands dirty.

Everything seems to be in check, tires were just balanced a week ago.
it's very wierd. Everything seems tight, etc.
I'm going to drive it today and see if it keeps up. I'll get it up on a rack this afternoon if I have too.

Thanks guys...

Yes the springs need to seat into the resess on the lower spring cup, jack up the body and rotate the springs into their correct position.

The short shocks on the rear will also affect the ride as they will not allow full articulation of the larger springs

Yes, springs seat a specific way... the perch is not round at the bottom... the OME spring are not completely round at the bottom either. Check to match sure spring is not installed upside down and that it is seated correctly on the base/perch. Flat surface of the spring faces upward... I know this cause I am doing the install right now... just finished the fronts and tackling the rears. It took me a while to get it right.

did you check your alignment and such after you ran the trail? It is possible to "throw Off" your steering after running a trail...Usually those tires work well on a d1 and have yet to see anyone with a D2 go with that tire size after they have lifted it

Could be the wheel speed sensors or hub assembly? I had this problem where it felt like the rear end wanted to spin out.

Thanks for all the input. I think I may have to turn a spring over, I've had enough for today since I also busted my front Diff. Broke the center pin and now the spring is the last on my list....

I think I'll put a TruTrack in the front to replace the old Diff....

The TT will also help compensate for camber change from the lift. Some experience squirley handling after even a moderate 2" lift, some don't - depends I think on what camber was present from the factory. In my case, the front TT completely fixed poor steering after lifting - I couldn't keep it in a straight line without constant steering wheel input after the lift, and before the TT.

Wow, thanks for the input on the TT.
I did also notice a bit of "play" in the wheel on the highway. I'm looking forward to all these benefits!

What is a common tire size after the lift? I replaced the Hurricanes with stock DII 16's which I think are 7" wide, right?

255 80 R16....trails and expedition type use
265 75 R16 for hard off roading (lighter on the diffs"
285 75 R16 for the mall as they don't tuck in the wheel well

nope I thnk the stock rim is 8 inches but the backspacing is minimal, I would just think that after lifting a DII you would want a wider tire than a skinnier/taller one to compenate for the higher center of gravity...It also would give you a better feeling on trails i would think? Am I right?
