Your truck probably has the early lt77 with the lower 5th gear and they tend to be pretty "notchy" to shift. I have the late (92) lt77s. It is just as smooth as a r380 and has the higher overdrive. If you haven't already bought a 200tdi mine came with the engine. Having had both, I don't realy have a preference except that the reverse down on to the right on the 380 is a better spot than right beside 1st.

Word. Yeah it's an old LT77. The place I'm looking at having the conversion done at takes care of the whole situation so I don't have to deal with gathering parts. I was just contemplating the trans also as ppl seem to praise the r380. I kinda like the reverse over on the far left. There is a sort of stop or something that you have to push it past to get it over to reverse. I could see top left being a pain if it were lhd.
