Hey, anyone ever use gun broker? A friend of mine I do all of my hunting with is trying to track down a win model 70 in 30-06 and no one LOCAL has one in that cal, only in .270. Is gun broker reliable to order a gun and get it shipped to a dealer?

Never had an issue with gunbroker.com or auctionarms.com.

I mostly use a Savage Model 10 in .300 WSM. It's lightweight and is easy to manuver in the woods. I put a Richards Dual Action stock on it. It's one of a few Savages that I have and all are very accurate out of the box.

ooohhhhh, the real deal or a repro? condition?

It's real, but my ad sporterized it in the 60s when all the cool kids were doing it.

He paid $17 for it and promptly put a $200 Timney trigger on it and 3-9X Redfield scope.

It shoots MUCH better than I can shoot it, but it puts the bullets in the same hole at 100 yards with handloads.

By 'sporterized' do you mean he cut the last inch or two off the barrel to get rid of the front sightand replaced the stock? My grandfather has one of those and he carried a '03-A3 as part of his kit during WWII. The 'sporterized' rifle will still drive tacks, but he tells me it's nowhere near as good as it could be with the full barrel...

Of course, I'm just curious, not complaining...he and (now I) have killed a lot of deer with that gun...

Gun season opens up here this Saturday. I'm getting pretty pumped. I will probably end up hunting most all of the weekend and next week. Then maybe cap it off and hunt the first split of duck season here :D

I picked up a ladder stand and have it set up, and I ended up building a box blind and stuck it up anyways even though it was late. I also built a platform in a big oak near a pond and am going to break down and buy a Summit Viper tomorrow since I couldn't ever turn one up on CL. I will need a climber to hunt my buddies property in the heart of Brentwood TN early next week.

I am ready :patriot: Hopefully I'll bag a big one opening day right? :smilelol:

a few pictures of where my box blind sits and how it originally looked before a little manicure. The hood of my tractor comes up to my shoulders.

With property that private and un-hunted you can really produce some fine deer and I'll bet you've got some big bucks stalking about. Get some food plots started and be selective on what you harvest and the quality will just get better and better. Here in NC we are stinky with does this year which need to be thinned so they don't chase away the bucks.

I took a doe out of that box blind Monday morning to put some meat in the freezer. My buddy had an 8 point walk out on him yesterday but never could get a good shot off as it was too dark. Going back out this afternoon and hope to see some more.

I would say that there are a bunch of big deer up there, BUT this weekened I would say I heard anywhere from 30-40 shots ring out from Saturday to Sunday we hunted morning and afternoon. A lot of people up there shoot anything that walks out :ack:

Do you have people hunting your land without permission? That could be trouble and dangerous. It might be hard to kick them odd if the property has been unmonitored for years, good luck if that is the case. You need to post it an get the word out to come see you if they want to hunt.

I have it posted. I am sure people have trespassed on it and hunted before, but I think people have gotten the picture that its not just a big CRP piece of land and I'm hunting it now. I have met most all of the people around and am related to the guy next door, and I also have some cousins that keep an eye on it for me that are local. Its only a 100 acre farm so its not very big, and its not unusual to hear a few shots ring out while you're hunting up there since every redneck up there hunts their land. Its in a very sparsely populated area in north TN, about a good half hour from any type of gas station. However, opening day/weekend is like WWIII up there. When you can kill 3 does or 1 buck a day all season people tend to shoot whatever they see.

I've taken three deer so far this year, but nothing to really speak of. Two does with bow-and-arrow and a small 6-pt with shotgun. I took a turkey Thanksgiving with the bow.

Do any of yall take your deer to a processor? What do they charge? Or do you just cut out the backstrap and whatever else you might want?
