Ok, I did some research around the site and was unable to find an answer for this. The oil light on my 92 RRC comes on intermittently after warm up, after driving for a while, it comes on solid while idle. I would like to replace the oil pump, but I find all sort of different looking things when I search "92 RRC oil pump" one looks like its crankshaft driven the other dizzy driven. I think mine uses the dizzy driven. Has anybody have any pics on the process of replacing the pump? Any tips? How about priming, and housing clearance?

Thank you for your help;

-Gabe.

Put an oil pressure guage on it . I think it only takes 6 lbs to keep the light off with a good switch . If it only has 6 psi then you may want to look at all the bearings . Best to pack the pumps with grease like was mentioned above . Those things don't like to catch a prime , I don't even like taking the oil filter off some old worn out 3.9's .

I have had oil issues in the past, I bought a sensor back then, but since reving the engine up turns the light off I though it was really an issue of low pressure , so I never installed the new switch.

And in answer to your original question (or part of it anyway) a '92 should have the external, distributor-driven oil pump. They were used with the V-belt engines, when they went to the serpentine belt in '95 they also changed the front cover and went to the crankshaft-driven internal pump.

The V-belt pumps are usually pretty easy to prime, I made a tool out of an old distributor that I just drop in and spin with a drill. But I've also primed them and the serp. belt engines by disconnecting the upper oil cooler hose from the radiator and slowly filling it (and therefore the pump) with oil.

is the pickup in the oil pan clean? they pick up fuzz and junk over time then don't feed well to the pump. that fixed my low idle oil pressure and made the engine much quieter

When the oil light comes on does the valve train get noisy? Valves tapping or bottom end rod noise?

I cleaned the oil pick up and replaced the pressure switch and the problem seems to be resolved. I was talking to a friend and he sugested using lucas oil stabilizer. What are your thoughts on this?

No preference on the use of Lucas Oil Stabilizer...?
Also, Has anybody changed the T-Case oil? what kind does it take? and does it just change like differential oil?

The transfer case will use 90w, just like the diffs. Remove the fill plug with a 1/2" ratchet, then the drain. Then fill away.
