I installed new Ashcroft air lockers with 4.11 gears and rear axle shafts this past weekend. The hubs were a bear to get off. Took a hammer and pry bar to get them off. Everything went back in ok, until the test drive.
Backed it out of the shop into the gravel drive way, put it in gear and went easy on the gas. Started off fine, but 10 seconds into moving forward the truck lurched and had a grinding sound that sounded like the ABS kicking in. The ABS light came on first quickly followed by his two friends..
I cleared the abs codes and tried again.. same issue.
Drove the truck with the 3 amigos on... no issue.

I decided that it was an ABS issue and not a "we installed the lockers wrong issue". So I went wheeling to test out the new lockers. Drove all around Uwharrie, used the lockers and wheeled "open".. no issues.

Then drove 100 miles home, Again no major driving issue, although I did hear a slight metallic grinding noise at higher speeds that almost sounded like the brakes? I havent driven the truck since Sat.

I cant remember the exact codes. Im asking my buddy who had the code reader to send them to me, but I think they were low voltage codes on both left side sensors?

Im going to take the wheels and brakes off to inspect everything.. Wondering if anybody has any input on this? Believe it or not after 11yrs of owning a D2 this is the first time Ive had the 3 amigos!!!

Ill update what the codes are once he sends them to me. Edit: the codes are for low sensor output for both front and rear left sensors

You probably fucked up/forgot to tighten/etc the ABS sensors while removing/reinstalling the bearing carriers. I just installed my ashcroft lockers about a month ago, and that's the only part of the job that I can see causing your issue.

Don't bother draining the diff, if there was an issue you'd know it.

So messed around with it for a while this morning before it got too hot. I found the brake pad on the front left was not seated correctly on the caliper. I fixed that, but doubt that was the issue causing the 3 amigos.

As far as the metallic noise Ive been hearing, I think I found out what that is... These dust caps? on the pinion are loose and spinning around. When I put my finger on them I can replicate the sound.. Both F+R are doing this so I think Im just going to put a small layer of epoxy across the seal onto the housing in hopes it keeps it from rattling.

Im going to order new abs sensors for the left side.. Does the drivers side rear abs line have a quick disconnect plug? I dont see one. Will I have to splice in the new sensor?

The sensors usually don't actually fail, it is just the connector in the wheel well that is the problem. Land Rover updated the replacement ABS sensors which eliminate that connects all together.
