Not to interrupt but what about those Holley and other brand throttle body injector kits that go for about 1200+ in Summit. Seems that might be cool. Injection but simple. Don't know just throwing that out there cause I want to learn more.

I have been thinking about changing my wifes 96 Disco over to the same setup. It is daily job to keep the electrics running while living on a small island where there is no help and lots of salt water.

Is anyone using or looking into installing an aftermarket injection controler like the Megasquirt-II?

The 24V electrics in my series 2A or the injection system in my jeep with a 4.7 liter stroker don't give me any trouble.

came back from an offroad trip to OVLR last week just wanted to uptade you a bit.
Fully loaded with 31 inch tires,4.10 gears, winch,Rovertym bumber,Camping gear the wife and dogs i did 14.5MPG i'm happy with that.

About Offroading. I did the HD trail at OVLR called the hydro trail very steep angles up,down and sideways and stalled once. One other time it felt like stalling but it was ok.
This was without the offroad needles or jets or whatever they call them. I ordered a set from summit racing that should help a bit.

In all i am pretty happy with that and has far has power goes it was a bit better than what i had. Thats with a 1990 distributor from my RR. With a new Dizzy and headers it should help quite a bit. When i stalled it started right back up.Itwas very inclined to the side. up and down was good exept once like i said it was very steep uphill.:)

Way to go RR90: it looks like a good solid setup. Those who poo-poo it were most likely not alive when all cars had carbs. A good running carb setup is great for simplicity when outback. I don't want to get rid of the EFI on my DI, but would love to bypass all the odd wiring stuff on it, like the alarm/imobilizer and such.

all anti holley guys-your all basically full of it -i have run holleys sucessfully on offroad vehicles for years!-so have millions of others.
like harleys and holleys you hate and fear em cause you cant fix em -just like so many people hate rovers for the same reasons-properly built holleys will go up any angle without flooding out- go to any hill climb event and watch-offshore boats,off-road racers, ect, ect, and such that take big float rattlings using em too without stall outs-hate to bring up a old-dead thread but to discourage anyone from escaping the lucas problems your all beholden to is debatable. Next time a old AMC [!] jeep with a holley passes you going up a hill think about it.... i own all -including a 96 d1 [with gems] so i speak by experience....
as to his emissions,i'd bet judging by your carbon build up and seafoam treatment smoke clouds - he's still way ahead of you who are putting down this interesting conversion-however i agree with those who were kindly suggesting he get some more fire in the ignition dept and surely he appreciated those that were helpful and supportive...

I've got an Edlebrock/Weber on my SBC 283 in my '69 88". I had so many problems with it stalling out off camber and on hill climbs that I intend on doing something before I get out again. I'm going to try the Holley and if that doesn't work, going TBI.

Nothing sucks worse than being 2/3rds up a long/steep hill climb and your engine dies and refuses to start.

Now that you've resurrected that thread...
Old AMC jeeps, IIRC, never had a Holley carb, for a reason. The V8s came with 2BBL Motorcraft 2150 - a fairly simple and reliable unit, capable of working at crazy angles and altitude-compensated (it would still run rich at 9k ft above sea level, but not flood).

In comparison to that, a standard 4-bbl Holley is a flaming hunk of shit. Any other - Carter AFB, Edelbrock (a copy of Carter), Quadrajet - is better off road. The 4-barrel AMC 401 in the Jeeps used Motorcraft 4350 - not as easy thing to live with as 2150, but nowhere as bad as a Holley.

i agree a STANDARD holley not good off road but a properly built one
hard to beat -but you gotta know what your doing...all the others have also up and down probs too inherent to their brands-i've used and worked w them all at some point. V-drive and jet boat guys just love their big holleys usually two at once-note though high rate float springs ect..NO STALLING.
I know all about the motorcrafts and their ups and downs and why all the guys junk em too...got several on hand in a box...got several 401's too-had one even with dual quad holley 450'S set up in the jeep cj-5 for a while- currently runs a built 69 amx 390ci-800 double pumper carbed that does any angle just fine-sorry no computer or the issues here we like to discuss-not a rover [off subject] and to compare not desired here BY ANY as fully different creatures-if anyone cares for helpful advice to solve rover installed holleys probs i'll gladly help if i can... to the guy with the edelbrock-weber in the series 88 -start with putting a twist tie secured rubber tubing extension on the vent tubes as overflow probably splashing over and drowning it -causing the stumble and stalls.
if that doesnt help-let me know.

Patrick, is this still performing as well as earlier? I wonder what the actual differences would be with the emissions?

I would be interested how it's going too. As for mine? I have had it installed for almost 4 years and love it. It stalls on occasion on steep climbs but I am using the original set up and have not spent the $12 on the off road needles. Maybe I should:D No regrets.

Didn't he blow his motor? Sorry if I'm wrong, but it seems he was looking for a new engine.
