Not long ago I sold a core engine out of a 04 4.6 d2 to a customer. When he tore it down the crank was marked "4.0" on the top. I figured somewhere along the way someone had swapped the crank. I apologized to the customer and told him I would send him a crank and pistons set out of a 4.6. Today I tore down a motor out of an 01 4.6 P38 and the crank is marked "4.0" on top. Do I just have the worst luck ever to have found 2 4.6 motors in a row that were rebuilt with 4.0 cranks or did they mark some 4.6 cranks 4.0? Is there a measurement I can take to verify what motor the crank is for?
