4.6 HSE engine to DII

Hello all,

My DII 2000 has a crack liner due to overheat so I decided to replace the motor. The indy shopsfound a used engine and sent me the vin number. Carfax indicated it's a 2002 Range HSE 4.6 engine with 40K miles, is there a way to verify in the engine for 4.6? The Range was wrecked due to accident but engine was intact so insurance sold the engine. I just want to make sure if I really have a 4.6 engine replacement.

There will be a number stamped in the block above the dipstick. The first three characters indicate displacement.

59D 4.6 HC
60D 4.6 LC
92D 4.0
93D 4.6
95D 4.0
96D 4.6

If it's not listed above, it is either a service engine, or it came out of something other than a P38
