This is an extension of my "Diagnosing overheat" thread
I have found a couple of options, one is a salvaged '03 that was in a wreck but otherwise is running well with 105k on it. The other is a used 4.6 engine that had 72k on it and comes with free shipping and a 3 year warranty.
If I do the engine swap I would then proceed to build my ultimate tophat linered engine out of my 4.0 while still being able to use my Disco until the time I was ready to finish it at which point I'd pull the 4.6 and use the crank and rods for the new motor.
My question is: do I need a 4.6 ECU or will it work with the existing ECU?
If I buy the salvage it would of course come with an ECU, can I just swap it into my truck or is there something else to it?
