Andrew, that's totally fine. I'm shopping around right now, not doing to purchase off a whim. It's one of those that I'm researching since buying a gun lately for me is a very special occasion, aka...cant always buy one and I'm looking for the one to hold me over for a bit.
More of my money is going towards reloading and casting than purchasing another gun. I can hold till June or July with no issue really, but would like it if you could assist. would be appreciated.

Brian I would love to help you figure this out. And when you find what you like I'll check my sources to see if we can get you a better price too.

Do you have a range down there you shoot at? I need to find one near Tyler.

lol, it's about a 300 miles to where I live in NE san antonio. May be more economical to meet up in Fort Hood or Waco area since it's about 1/2 way. There's gotta be a couple of ranges around there. It's about a 3.5 - 4.5 hour drive from Dallas to San Antonio. Depends on if you've got my lead foot or my wife is driving :p

Brian I'm no 1911 expert so take this for whats its worth. I have two Colts and love them both. In my limited experience with 1911s its going to cost you around a grand for a decent one. and another grand if you want some nice custom shit like match barrel etc. I know a lot of them say they are a match barrel but many really aren't.

Cool thing about 1911's is that you can buy a basic one and add as you can afford!

Easier said than done. To do it right you need the jigs and ability to fit everything.

Both are Springfield Armory 1911's:

One is Stainless GI Version with wood grips and no night sights for $597

One is Matte Black with wood grips and no night sights for $619

Ever seen a Brownells catalog. You might be interested in it.

I bet I've spent a hell of lot more with Brownells than you or anyone else on this board. How many 1911 you customized? If its that easy for you maybe you should do it for a living. If you do do it for a living I got a National Match Colt I would like you to put a new beaver tail and ambi safety on for me. I've been putting it of for some time. And if you need a Brownells Catelog I have three or four of them on my desk right now.

Don't get me wrong I love 1911s but you don't just drop in most upgrades you want. My dad does 1911 work so I have some exposure to it.

It's a hobby, and I've done only a couple. The mechanisms are pretty simple. I think if you did it, you would get some enjoyment out of it. I've found that it gives me much more respect for the guns and the people who engineer the better quality guns. If you get to Ga. I'll be glad to help you with it. I mostly work on auto shot guns that need restoration (Browning A-5's and Rem. 1100's mostly). I really get the most fun out of bringing an old Belgium Browning back to life and luster. The two pistols that I mentioned in above thread wouldn't need much unless you are thinking of competition shooting.

You might like the Belgium made Browning Lighting O/U I have. I think comparing you to someone wanting a hadgun isn't fair. Most people don't have the ability to do 1911s. Everyone wants a cool 1911 but most barely know how to clean it properly. You are a minority in the gun world. I haven't tackled 1911s yet as I'm pretty busy with Sigs, Glocks M-4 and Sniper rifles. Its something I plan to do when my retirement sets in.

The other 1911 I have is a General Officer Issue. Issued only to Generals in the Army. It will never be altered, which is OK as it shoots great and has a wonderful trigger.

I started "tinkering" with guns at about 16yrs of age (curitosity I guess). Now 42, I've got up to hot caustic bluing and now learning to hand engrave them. An please never alter the General Officer, that would be a treasure for sure.
