Gents,

I’ve been battling a mysterious battery drain on my 92 RR Classic since I purchased this vehicle. Had my mechanic go through it and he traced it to the fuses tied to the fuel pump. He primarily works on Mercedes, so not familiar with the Rovers. As a temporary fix he installed a battery kill switch that works, but I would really like to fix the problem. I have been reading on this topic and read a few threads where the wrong relay was causing the drain. Called my local dealer to get a better understanding of the relays that go under the passenger seat so I could compare and see if I have a wrong /generic one that is causing the drain, but they could not advise on it or even have the relays. I am attaching a picture of the relays I have, can anyone familiar with these please advise if I have a wrong relay at play here that needs to swapped out?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The FPR is next to those two in your pic. It will be in the blue terminal base and if original will be silver with a red slash on top. Some put the generic silver relays in which may be causing your troubles. There's a mercedes relay that works & you can pick it up at Napa. It's somewhere in the Dweb knowledge & I can find it if you can't.

Many thanks. I will get on it tonight after work. It is a hard fit in there to say the least. Thanks to your tip on fixing my stuck seat.I fixed my seat controls, works like a charm now.

You can replace the fuel pump relay with a non-original Bosch just make sure it has the same circuit function.... normally open circuit. If you are near O-Town I have a few laying about, I think.

Pull that silly brown "box" out of there and throw it over your shoulder, while saying a brief, nonsensical prayer.

It is Land Rovers no-so-subtle reminder to get back to the dealership so they can siphon cash from your account. It serves zero purpose otherwise.

Who doesn't love pictures... Range Rover Classic Fuel Pump Relay

Sorry the last one is upside down....

Swapped it out this evening. The one I pulled is the one on the left in the picture with the Bosch one being to the right. I am obviously no exert with these relays, but am hopeful this has fixed the issue. I will take the vehicle over to Advance auto parts tomorrow to check if the drain is still at play or if it is sorted for good.

Although, I have learnt never to get excited with fixes on British vehicles, I have had luck today. Just had a complete test done on the battery and the drain is at .03A. This appears to be acceptable and if all stays good will have my mechanic pull out the kill switch.

Thanks to everyone who gave their input. The forum is of tremendous help to me to say the least.
