94 Distributor Cap Question

Bought a Distributor cap for the 94 Disco from Atlantic British, and when I got it in the mail took a look at the inside of the cap. Each of the 8 metal towers inside the cap are, or were, surrounded on 3 sides by plastic (mold stuff). My issue is that on all 8 towers, the plastic is broken off to some degree or other. I am wondering if a cap in this shape is OK to run in the truck. I called and they sent me another one, free, and it is exactly the same way, but only 6 of the 8 are broken. The part is from BritPart (RTC3197), and yes it is the cheaper cap, not the really expensive one. I guess based on what I hear from the forum, I will either plunk down the money for the high dollar one, or try them again. Thanks in advance.

Take a picture of the cap.

But you should really buy the Geniune cap. I like the peace of mind and at only a few extra bucks it's worth it.

Hey PT, I have one of this model on the truck currently (with no broken plastic) and have used them in the past with no problem. But I honestly think they (Britparts) have some quality issues, and that AB got a bad lot. I'll hook it up and see what happens. thanks guys

Try to find a lucas branded cap and rotor or gen-you-wine.

First off, the Lucas stuff used to say made in Italy. Secondly, Lucas sold the manufacturing of stuff like caps and rotors a coupla years ago.

Genyouwine? Land Rover hasn't built an engine that used a distributor in ten years. It is very likely that the same manufacturer made the parts for Rover as for Britpart!

Lately, I've been buying ignition parts made either in the the Czech Republic, the former Yugoslavian republics, or Israel and have had good luck.

I am very let down that Beck Arnley has discontinued the "better" cap.

they had 2 caps the better cap cost about $35 and had brass terminals...they fit tighter and the terminals didnt get so burned up when you ran bigger spark plug gaps.

There are an awful lot of people who don't think very highly of Beck-Arnley. The company my wife works for owned B-A for a little while and dumped it due to such a bad reputation. The company that bought them raided the retirement funds and most of the long-time employees left the company en masse.

The shop I worked for last year refused to install Beck-Arnley parts, even if they were provided by the client. I was pretty shocked by that as I'd never had a problem with B-A parts.
