Hi- have been away for a while- at least a year from Discoweb!

Turn signal switches- didn't find much in the archives..... of course, it is a combo turn signal/ headlight/running light/ hi/lo beam/ dashlight- everything switch.....

Lost the dash lights the other night- so after removing the steering column shroud (3 screws)- about 5 minutes worth, including getting a phillips head screwdriver, the turn signal switch is easily exposed...... the switch operation felt kinda gritty with any movement, so the easy fix was get a paper towel, a spray can of electrical contact cleaner like CRC- with the long red tube, and simply spray amble amounts in the switch from any opening you can find until it flows out the bottom, catch the runoff with the paper towel..... the spray dries and cleans with no residue. Dash lights work like a champ again.....

BUT, the hi/lo beam function is inop- when trying to select hi beams- they don't turn on and stay on.... they do illuminate when the lever is pulled aft, with the blue hi beam symbol on the dash, but won't stay on...... something in the switch is bad or hung up, as you usually hear an audible "click" as it switches from hi to low..... maybe a spring broken /slide lever worn or broken????

anybody ever had one of these switches apart before? haven't taken the switch out yet, after removing the two small retaining screws, it doesn't want to slide out like I think it should- maybe a lock lever or something I haven't found yet.... the hope is to remove the switch assembly, blow it out, fill it with the elec spray, and then hopefully it will free up the hi beam position.....

of course from LR, this is a remove/replace kinda deal- but I like the challenge and spirit you have to have to own, drive, and enjoy one of these damn things- besides, it's an excuse to buy tools.....

any thoughts would be appreciated! anybody have a price of a new switch?

IIRC, there are two tabs that must be depressed to release the switch. Look at the top and bottom of the switch.

Get ahold of Will for a replacement switch, he's probably got the best price.

Sounds like you have a great attitude for a Rover owner. I wish more had a similar attitude.

Thanks for the reply!- who is Will?? I've had great success with the guys at british Pacific.... I take it the switch can't be taken apart?- or if you do, it quickly explodes into a 100 pieces..?

The switch slides out, might be a little stiff, is on rails and thus needs to be pulled in the correct direction. I had success by spraying liberal amounts of electrical cleaner inside the thing.
