Dear Disco gurus, HELP! Disco will turn over, but no start after new crank sensor, Multi function relay, new used ignition lock and switch, new fuel pump, and new deceleration switch. Sounds like it is getting fire after a shot of starting fluid. I am getting a 2-3 second delay from starting position 2 till starter kicks in. I think the fuel pump is not getting a completed circuit. Tested fuel pressure at shrader valve over 30 psi when I ran fresh 12 volt to the fuel pump. I can hear another relay clicking under the ECM on passenger side behind glove box. Thanks in advance, love you guys!!!

Gently bang on the starter with a hammer, then try to start it.

Thanks PT and Ruditron, I am going ahead with a new starter, 140k on this one and sounding raggy. Any hints on starter removal operation? Thanks fellers! Nice looking canoe, Ruditron, I carry my Old Town wood and canvas up there, when my dog is running...

make sure you tap the 8mm allen socket into the the starter mounting bolts to get a good purchase or you will round the allens out--they get corroded and seized into the block --be patient as PT stated

Take as much time as you need in not stripping those allen bolts. I had a friend botch that and it took him a lot of time to rectify.

ALSO- I swear by PB-Blaster Penetrant to break those things loose before I get to them. I would soak those bolts down 1-2 times over the course of getting all my tools in order/jacking

Good luck. It's no biggie if those dont give you trouble.

Thanks for the info PT, Luke and Ruditron! Got it out yesterday! Will put the new Britishstarters.com in this week. Had to modify the spring clip on the heat sheild for the fatter solenoid on the new one. Replacing the cap head screws with a SAE normal six sided bolt. I really appreciate this site and all you fellas insights! I owe you all some beers! Jerry

One step forward.. I installed new starter, cleaned the ground/ leads really well, new mulifunction relay, decel switch, charged up the battery. No start, no click, nothing. Tried taking off the starting switch off the ignition and using a flat screwdriver. Checked fuses. Hear the relay clicking for the fuel pump as normal. Wonder if the automatic tranny kill switch is the problem??? Any suggestions fellers?? Jerry

I read that you have checked the fuel pressure. I had a problem with random dying and no start on my 96 Disco. Sometimes it would start and sometimes not. I checked the fuel pressure at different times and sometimes it would have good pressure and sometimes none. I finally traced it to a loose electrical plug on the fuel pump. The harness plug clicked in solidly to the fuel pump, but wasn't engaging enough to have good current sometimes. I could sit there and move the plug around with my finger and make it run well or die depending on the pressure applied to the plug. I just wired it on tightly and have never had a problem since. Just checking voltage at the plug was not enough to diagnose this, nor applying voltage directly to the pump. This is worth checking.
