Just want to check in before I drop $200 on a new starter to see what else I could check or I'm missing.
Truck starts every time, but it's very slow for the 2~3 seconds and then the starter comes up to speed and it fires up. Sounds strained and tired and then roars to life.
Battery is about a year old.
12.5~12.7V at battery
13.8V at battery at idle
10.4V at battery when cranking
12.5~12.7V at solenoid terminal/starter ground system off.
Have not had a second set of hands yet to turn the key while I check the voltage at starter when cranking.
My inclination is a worn starter motor as the solenoid sounds like it's engaging immediately.
What's the group think?
Bad starter or look for something else?
Get it rebuilt, $199 for a new starter, or $225 for one from britishstarters.com?
