1x large flatblade screwdriver
1x small to med hammer

Tap the outer ridges at a perpendicular angle with the driver and hammer. Each time it moves, use a new ridge.

Carefull not to break the plastic ring that way!

Very large channel lock pliers work too.

My lock ring is metal. I've beat the shit out of it. Spare off the parts truck is plastic and red though. I always use a hammer and flat head screw driver or punch
