removed/ cleaned crank sensor. what a pain that is. can I check resistance to see if sensor is ok? should I just blast it back in and try starting the truck?

ok. cleaned and replaced crank sensor w/o change. replaced crank sensor with sensor from other disco in yard w/o change. what a pain with manifolds in place... no fuel. have spark and batter is holding while cranking. fuel relay in passenger footwell is clicking violently after being replaced with two new ones. engine fuse box has been supplied with new fuses as well. would failed fuel pump cause relay to click?

getting 5v to fuel pump with key in second position. thank you.
Turn the key to Pos II. Quickly run back and stick your ear by the fuel pump. Be quick as it only runs for maybe 7 seconds or so. Can you hear it humming(running)? If not your pump may be dead or the connection on top of the pump could be bad/corroded.

no fuel pump noise in second position. the relay clicks as soon as the key is turned to pos2. checked agin with relay from another disco. same result. all grounds are good. multi-plugs to fuel pump free from corrosion. 5v to fuel pump seemed to be an odd reading. I've had disco fuel pumps go and never had the relay clicking simultaneously. I'm going thru wiring loom now. was sudden onset of problem. truck had been driving.

rains delayed work. was driving with shit alternator for a while; just recharging battery before short drives(been a rebuild project not yet registered). never had any experience with main relay next to charcoal canister going bad, but leyland manual says that's a possibility. gonna try one from the other disco when the rain let's up and I'll report back.

First off, the fuel pump relay is not in the footwell, it is behind the expansion tank.

Secondly, the five volts you're seeing is for the fuel level gauge, not power to run the pump.

I'm not fast enough the turn the key on and run to the back of the truck :D

Rig your circuit tester so it can be seen from the drivers seat, turn key to position two while watching the circuit tester. If no power, start working your way back to the fuse box, checking the connector in rear wheel well first.

Also, you are looking for the white/purple stripe wire to carry +12V to the fuel pump.

In post 4, I asked for fuel pressure. What is the fuel pressure? We've been running around the barn, but nobody bothered to open the door and look inside.

there is zero fuel pressure. I can check the back when I have my child working as assistant. the third yellow relay in the passenger footwell is clicking. I was under the assumption that was the location of fuel pump relay and injector relay as indicated in leyland and Haynes manual as well as my local napa store who provided me with the replacement yellow relay. was curious of the likelihood of failure of the main relay behind the expansion tank and if similar issue had been experienced. the relay behind the expansion tank will get swapped and I'll report back.
