I have a 99 DII and the key fob no longer works (been thru a lot in the past two years). Well last night after classes, I locked up manually as normal and this a.m. I am unable to manually unlock the door. So I am stuck as of now since this is the only point of entry on the 99. Any suggestions, as I am all ears with our wedding coming up I have a rather busy next couple of days ahead

When i read this again i dont see how this truck got superlocked. Unless i am off base this can only be done with the key fob and you say yours has not worked in a while.

If this is th case then your not superlocked and i did not see an answer to the flashing red light on the dashboard? Is it flashing? If you lock it with the key this comes on for sure. (or it does on mine)

Also no matter what if you are not superlocked the door switch will work. Its a long story that i keep short but i did not have a keyfob with mine so i added remote locking by tapping into this switch at the dash with a cheep remote set up and it works great.

I'm just guessing on what you have said here but if you locked the door with the key, then it wont unlock and the button the dash does not work i think you have a flat battery. I see someone suggested adding a jumper lead to the starter motor positive and seeing if that would help... i think that would be my next thing to try.

Let us know how it goes

This happened to me once when I was parked in a garage in Philadelphia. I tried every option: getting a new key cut at land rover in Cherry Hill, having a lock smith try to make a new key, trying to pick the lock, considered having it towed out of the garage but there was not enough overhead clearance.

I drilled a small hole at the top and bottom of the locking core, inserted a flat head screw driver and was able to unlock the truck no problem. It cost about $160 if I remember correctly for the new door handle and to have the core set the same as the ignition.

Where are you located?

When you turn the key twice to the left within the 3 seconds, do you hear anything to indicate that any of the doors are trying to unlock?

This reminds me of a great story. A friend of a friend bought a brand new F150 and took a couple of us out fishing in it. The truck was probably less than a week old. We stopped to check out a potential spot on the river and when the driver got out he left the keys in the ignition. His dog hopped into the front seat and stepped on the door lock switch. We were 25 miles up a dirt road in the boonies. He had to resort to breaking a window on his brand new truck to get back in. It was tragically hilarious.

The light on the dash is indeed flashing yet. Door was pryed open and the switch on the dash was activated with no happenings.

That is part of the problem, the key will not turn (assuming failed actuhator) therefore I can not try to fool the superlock to the best of my knowledge. If you know otherwise, I am ALL ears.

I called the dealership again to see if I can talk a tech into coming onsite to disengage superlock. if my thoughts of what their procedure is are correct, it would seem a possible option. Then again, being onsite at the dealership, you have more tools readily available and I am not expecting a yes to that question. Awaiting a call back in the morning.

Any update?

When this happened to me I had just locked my truck and ran upstairs to grab my laptop bag. When I came back the key no longer worked.

Not as of yet, I am going to give another import lock specialist a crack at it since he is willing, and very motivated. Ill give him a chance Monday morning.

Strange happenings. I'm parting a 99 D2 and have not had to pull the engine. I had a customer today who wanted the fuel pump. So before we pulled it I went to start the Rover so he knew the pump worked. The horn started honking. I tried to turn the alarm off with the key. No luck and no start. I had another lock actuator and plugged it in(door panel was already removed)no dice. Found the remote which had a dead battery-replaced battery. Vala alarm turned off and the truck started.

So my theory is that if you don't have the remote you may get f'd at some point with these D2's

Well, I got in. Poor weather had the locksmith delayed so I started playing. I mentioned ealier that the key fob was no longer an option since its condition. Well I took the pc board out of it and started jumpering contacts I thought may be key to the key function. Got out of super lock and was able to open one of the back doors. From there I was able to double pull the latch and get in the driver door. Now I will need to fix a few things that occured during previous attempts to get in, but I am thinking it will be much less of a bill had I had it towed, and worked on at the dealer.
