A friend stopped by with this today. I drooled. A bit.

Interesting. I've only seen the 2.8 in the South African market where they are all RHD. What's the back story on it? I imagine this 110 will fetch a small fortune.

This looks to be the Cummins 2.8 crate motor, not the South African BMW 2.8

I think the first I saw of that engine was last year, but I'm not sure when it was released.

That little Cummins seems like it would be a really good match for a Defender, or any off-pavement/utility vehicle.

Cheers,

I have seen many articles and videos of the R2.8 in a Rover. They even had a Cummins R2.8 rally in Moab with all the trucks that had one early on. If only Scotto would finish his.
Low on hp but great on torque.

The figures are interesting, because it's essentially an exaggerated RV8 on paper. :ROFLMAO:

Im guessing that's the one Crowther built, unless there's 2 identical ones. I've been leaning towards that R2.8 for my 110 build, it seems like a great option

If I was considering a repower project, a 110 with a 2.8 Cummins would be at the very top of list, well above an LS variant.

Why?
Fuel mileage?
Horse power?
Towing?
Maintenance?
Parts availability?
Available accessories?
Total project costs?
A combination of everything listed above except total project cost. However, for what you get, even total project cost isn’t too bad. That 2.8 Cummins engine is the total package. The kit they sell for repower projects also greatly simplifies the project.

I have a buddy that has been using cummins 4 cylinder engines in repower projects for years. He would get them from industrial/ delivery trucks.

However, there is an easier, albeit more expensive option now.

Check it out below or see the link previously posted with specs:

i almost talked myself into buying a 110 recently with the idea of doing this. However, the reality of my life right now talked me out of it.
