ABS/HD/TC-- Definitive Fixes

Many of us have had regular, though apparently random, visits from the ?three amigos,? ABS/HD/TC dash lights. I think it would be interesting for those who have definitively fixed this problem (i.e., they went away for good) to post what was done. We hear vague references to ground problems and doing brake jobs etc? But I think it would be enlightening to see a catalogue of things that definitely fixed the problem! Maybe we would see a pattern emerge? So, if you have had regular visits by the infamous three and fixed it for good, then please, simply post what you did. It may give those of us who don?t have T4, Autologic etc? something to check out.

I've replaced 2 hubs so far. Need to replace the front right now. It's not reading the fault I mind, it's the driving 120 miles to get it reset after it's fixed (again) that sucks.

well yeah, if your modulator is done, then a ground fix isn't going to cut it, but LR apparently is finding a lot of perfectly fine modulators being returned

Why don't they start sending them out to D2 owners as spares. A token of gratitude for all of the money we've given them over the years

According to the Tech Info pdf, the affected vehicles XA900000 - XA999999 and XA200412 and up. Based on the numbers given I take it that mine is not one of the affected ones since it starts with YA. I printed the Tech Info and called Land Rover USA to verify if my D2 is affected or not, and the rep informs me that they do not honor any document that does not emanate from the LR site. So I responded by asking him, if there are any recalls or service bulletins that are issued, whereabout in your site can I find them. Don't know the answer. Needless to say, they weren't helpful at all.

I've replaced the two front hubs, an ABS sensor lead, ABS modulator, brakes all around. I don't really think the three amigos ever actually leave. They just go to sleep for awhile.

I don't mind so much doing the repairs. It's having to drive the 160 mile round trip to the dealer to get the lights reset, and loosing a day of my life that I will never get back.

We've never found a ground problem. Nor have we ever had a truck come back for a "shuttle valve electrical failure" after replacing a modulator. Clearing a code with that fault will sometimes go for months without setting the code again, but it does return. If LR was testing them by simulating months of driving, then they would be finding less "good ones" returned.

I am not getting this, are you saying that the code is totally random, no triggers that are predictable for LR? a modulator is not that complex of an item, to develope a series of thorough tests.

the other thing, why not just re-set everyones codes every few months instead of replacing the modulator if the code can go for months?

VERY dumb question--

is this system actually disabled when the 'three amigos' show up? i.e. does the alarm acuate independent of their functionality?

I've seen all three come at least 3x / year. Replaced hubs, sensor, etc. Now I'll take it to the LR for some recall I received years ago. I would have to agree the ABS modulator is the culprit since it pumps multiple times when it is not necessary then tres amigos show-up. :(

Dealer replacing the ABS modulator fixed mine when it became a constant issue on the 99 D2. $2K part and labor, cost me $135 with the extended warranty, which ment I recovered the cost of that coverage twice now.

Yay! The three amigos are back on my D2. I knew they wouldn't be gone long. I sure wish I knew what that "difinitive" fix was. I'll try to get out to the dealership this summer and see what they have to say about fixing it this time. This ABS system is a real racket.
