ABS pump-95 Classic

I wish I had your money, Mr. Schram :)

Is the impellor part of the pump, or part of the accumulator?
The impeller is part of the pump. There are three of four socket head cap screws that hold the pump head to the motor. Disassemble the motor from the pump and either flush the pump with alcohol or disassemble it further and gently scrub the crud form the inside surface of the pump body.

I don't advocate this method due to the liability issues for me. If I buy a rebuilt ABS pump, I have significant "Insulation" through the rebuilder.

Heck, I advocate it all the time! I figure the 'you get what you pay for' nature of the internet insulates me.

I had my '94 LWB pump whining like yours was and I cleaned it out about 5 years ago. No issues since. I've done it with about 4 trucks, and no issues that I'm aware of.

YMMV...(that's my disclaimer).

PT is smart though, look at the accumulator also. ;)

I'm not smart, I just "speak with a voice of authority" says SWMBO.

Replacing both the pump and the accumulator is insurance for me as well.

Yes, you can clean the pump. Yes you can just replace the pump. Yes, you probably can get away with replacing the pump and not the relay. But, replacing all three components pretty much ensures lasting success.

Thanks for your input gentlemen. I will be taking Slade's CB approach with my fingers crossed. Just sold the Defender because I was tired of replacing so many parts taking so much time. I'm liking my roofed, ac'd, power window'd ride, thank you very much.
