I needs me a new laptop. It won't be my primary computer (got a nice desktop) however I really want to go ahead and get the nicest one I can. I did this with my old IBM T40 and it was badass up until last year (when it died).

I'll be using it primarily for some programming, writing, temporary photo storage (from location) and a touch of photochopping.

I found this Acer laptop that has a lot of the same components as my desktop (dual Core 2, craploads of RAM, etc) and looks like it could be a winner. I want to keep the screen to 15.4" (fit into previously owned cases and bags) and the weight isn't too bad.

What ya'll think? Price is right. Is the Acer computer a good product?

Thanks.

I've had a acer aspire 9500 laptop for about 18 months now. I haven't had any problems with it. That one looks like it's a lot nicer than mine.

It is ALL about customer service and warranties, check Consumer Reports.

We have two Acer's. I have a TravelMate 4010. I love mine and I use it 24/7. I've had it for at least 2 years and it does not have the best life. It does not have all the bling of the newer machines, but it's never let me down.

I only had to call customer service once and the time I did, I got an actual English speaking person without being put on hold. I thought that was pretty amazing.

I will be buying another one next year.

Can't be any worse than the POS Dell's I've had. For some reason (probably immediate local availability and price) I keep going back to them though. I'm on my fifth or sixth Dell and hate everyone of them.

Buy the Acer, if the extended warranty seems reasonable, buy it too. Then, report back to us!

With the imposition of Vista, I'm becoming even more of a Luddite.

Maybe it's time to go back to a Series truck.

Thanks. I've been looking around and haven't seen an extended warranty for the laptop. I'm probably just not looking in the right spot.

I've been running vista for a year now with only one trouble: making a wireless card work with a desktop. My apt is all wireless so I had to have to adapter. Other than that, no complaints.

You get what you pay for.

Once you go Mac, you never go back.

And as far as a warranty goes, I bought a cover-all warranty with my MacBook Pro, 3-yr plan for an additional $275. Whats another $275 when spending $3000? You wont be disappointed.
