Thanks Sven! Cooperstown and surrounding area looks like a neat place to stop and explore and is still relatively "on the route" home.

As much as I want to get to Vermont I think we will need to do that on another trip directly. It will just add too much to our travel time with only 1.5 days to get home before work.

I live in Cooperstown. Let me know if you have any questions.

Realize too that the Adirondack Park is fairly unique in that it is a patchwork of private and public lands, it's not like you drive through a gate and it is all wilderness. Unfortunately along the few roads looks like everywhere else, except for stretches between towns where you will get some nice views, but all of the wilderness is so protected as to be virtually inaccessible. Roadless, mostly trailless, and almost unvisited even on foot.

Still planning our route...thinking we will leave early Sunday morning and explore routes 58/30/28 heading east/south through Adirondack SP. Then maybe stop in Cooperstown to see the National Baseball Hall of Fame since we will be so close! I'd like for Sunday to be insterstate-free!

Are there any nice places to stay between Cooperstown or Binghamton, NY and Hazleton, PA? We will jump back on I81 for the trip home Monday morning...

When I go down there for work, I usually stay at the LaQuinta in Johnson City. Theres a great restaurant behind it that has the worlds greatest Buffalo Chicken Nachos
