Anyone replaced a stock radiator with an aftermarket aluminum radiator (Griffin, Ron Davis,etc..) with success into a D1 auto trans? I can get one dirt cheap and all the required alum weld bungs for lines,etc.. My stock rad has seen better days, as the PO JB welded the top fill plug area. I was replacing the water pump and tried to pop off the fill plug only to start cracking the JB weld around it. Should have let it be, never leaked before :banghead: Thanks in advance for any suggestions/info

remove and replace that plug you would be better off... in the past I have used a 1/2 inch pipe plug... it is pipe thread.

The whole area around the plug has been JB'd. I tried to get the plug out, but the existing JB started to crack. So I am assuming without tearing the Shit out of top of radiator that its happened before to the PO. Otherwise, I would have SIMPLY removed said plug and replaced with a new brass plug.

Yeah the D1 rads are over $400! I saw that on ebay.....Gotta be a way to use a full aluminum rad. in one of these trucks with maybe an aux. trans cooler too. I'll research some more. Thanks guys
