I've been thinking about going the same route, but am concerned about it being able to pass California emissions

You may have to go OE, Davico, Magna Flo, ect. are not allowed to ship sell or ship cat converters to Calif. It says so on thier websites.

I just bought two Catco 2.25 cats from carparts.com for 79.00 shipped. I installed them pretty much like the how to on this site.

don't know how I missed this...My friend Mike owns a muffler shop and he's done a bunch of rovers, everything from Rangies to Series and I'll find out what he's using...He brought the 110 from Bolivia that we are doing the engine swap in...He's been a Rover guy from 1996...

Update, though racepages.com immediately charged me for the y pipe it took a while to get some commitment on a delivery date. I discussed this with a nice lady in India who said it was being drop shipped from the manufacturer and it would ship from them in a maximum of 14 days from order date. I also emailed their customer service and go a similar story, but three days later.

Happily today I got a tracking number and Y-pipe will be here Thursday. I guess I know what I'm doing this weekend.

Incidentally after telling Benny that I didn't own a welder I pondered what I was waiting for and promptly shopped craigslist for a nice 115v Lincoln with nearly full spool, mostly full gas and a cart for half the price of new. I also then started rewiring the garage for a dedicated 20amp line and pissed away another $50 at Lowes as a result.

I justified everything by saving $300 from my budget cost on y-pipe and applied it to the welder and other junk for a net break even.

Amazing how I can justify this shit to myself.

Look forward to seeing what your buddy uses Mongo.

But did you cover up that hideous lime green paint in the garage yet?

Interesting. I was just looking at those yesterday. They must be less effective than the stock cats, which would explain the ultra low price.

Happy to report the pipe came in.

It was shipped via FEDEX and all Davico did was wrap one cat in cardboard with the pack slip. All and all it appeared to be in good shape.

My favorite thing about this was to see that the pipe was stamped manufactured in Canada, and the assembly said made in USA, assuming it was made in Massachusetts where it shipped from.

After unwrapping the cardboard I found the gaskets and warranty card.

Would love to hear what happens with this. Are you replacing due to failing emissions, like I just did, or because they were rusted out? $300- $340 bucks for something that I can just bolt up is awesome.

I just read your issue on expo. I'm glad you came to discoweb for help. Many of us no longer contribute over there because we don't like the way the website is run.

I am changing because is running badly and cats are rattling. It comes and goes, one day runs fine, next day crappy. Crappy means the truck coughs, shivers and bucks when I give it gas, when I get to highways speed it seems to run fine. Its common for me to have a flashing check engine light and engine fault codes P1314 and P1316.

I suspect that a faulty Oxygen Sensor could have been at the root of my issue. If I can bench test them and validate their effectiveness I will install the cats over this weekend. If I can't prove they are good I'll buy new ones and delay this installation for another week.

Yeah, I posted it up there because I wasnt sure how much longer DWeb was going to be up. It seems like once out of every three times I log on, its down. Im really hoping that the cats arent my issue because I really dont want to spend that money on it since Im in the midst of planning for a 300tdi repower. I would rather spend the money on a diesel drivetrain and swap and pick up some range and continue to drive her daily than buy some piece of shit cheapo Versa or Fit to drive during the days and camp/ wheel the Disco on the weekends.

Im hoping that the tune and cleaner does the trick on Monday. If not, then Im stuck having to spend money on a system that will be of no use in a month or two. That then brings in the decision of spending more money on replacement of O2 sensors than if I did it myself on the off chance that it IS my cats that are bad and need replacing just so that I can qualify for the waiver.

I like Expo for seeing ideas and trips. For tech info, there is no place better than here.

Do you have to go to a specific emissions facility or is it state run? If you can choose, I'd go to a different shop in case the last on was screwing you.

All emissions stations are state run and computerized. The inspector guy does nothing other than follow the directions on the computer screen. I am going to take it to a different station next time though. Itll be a station probably 20 miles from me so I can be sure that it is nice and hot by the time it gets there. The truck has done 500 miles since it passed emissions inspection last year but has been wheeled a couple of times since.

It can be like a Land Rover: sometimes tempermental, but it'll always get you out of a jam.

Update, I just finished rebuilding my system this morning. Here is wahat I ended up using....

Toddco Headers to a pair of magniflow 2.5 in/out high-flow cats, to a flowmaster 40 muffler. Sounds nice, even at hi-way speed. I'll try to get some pictures up soon as to how we ran the new pipe etc. Total cost was around 800 bucks but it's a marked improvement on the trucks sound.

I'm chasing down a p1316 code right now so the trucks running off, I'll get new video up of the system once I iron that out so you can hear it for yourself.
