Hello rover bretheren- I have Question someone can help me with...96 disco 145,00+miles and running strong down here in balmy florida.hopefully I can stop potentially a problem from occuring . So anyways while driving my rover with the air full blast.once every so often the air just shuts down ,then 5sec. later it starts back up (thank god..Ive done enough summers in the past without air and it sucks to hell, let alone the kids &wife will never ride with me.....wait a minute that might be advantageous naaaa.) I have know idea what the issue is ?maybe compresser I probably shoul have a obdII - would something like that throw a code? If any one has an idea -feel free to reply ,much appreciated. G"DAY BROS. Mine does this too, but only when the fan is on high. If it's lower it never shuts off. Never bothered to try and figure it out though.

Factory fan switches in 95's often cut out on speed 4, but not other speeds. We had ours replaced under warranty years ago, and it's never happened since.

Read your manual!!!!! :banghead:

On the "4" setting the fan intermittantly shuts out to prevent an overload! Running the A/C full blast is a strain.

I would say that your ac is low on refrigerant.
Both my van and my sons ranger had this symptom this week, added a few onces of feon and it fixed the problem.

There is a low pressure cut out on most automotive ac systems, if the pressure gets too low it means that the compressor is not getting enough cooling from the residual refigerant from the evaporator.

Another test, with the ac on high and the truck hot at idle, feel the low pressure line (the large one) as it goes into the compressor. It should feel cool to the touch.

If the system is allowed to get too low on refrigerant you can fry the compressor!

The switch overheats and requires replacement. That it is. Long known problem. Got mine replaced under warranty. It does it now and then. 145k on my 95 now don't care to replace it again unless it totally dies

Nice, now you just brought a world of Dweb hurt on yourself.

By the way, there are approximately 4,549 places on the internet where you can download the manual...for free.

x9....it is a very common problem! most of the time you dont even have to touch the switch but just a tap on the surrounding plastic and voila!

eventually, it will prob do it in most all speeds.....

enjoy!

I didn't mean the RAVE manual, I meant the basic OWNERS manual that came with the truck. If I could, I'd post the page.

I think I read mine on day 1 of Rover ownership.

There is a factory reason it does it on speed setting 4. If you start having problems at other speeds, then see the explanations above about replacement.
