Hello Good People,
I was looking for a way to get more air into my system with having installed an aux battery in front of the airbox trumpet.

While looking online I came across a few airboxes with these additional holes.
Aside from a possible acoustic change what do you all thing are the good, the bad, and the ugly reality with this mod in the below images?
Is it a possible good thing?
Is it a somewhat good thing thing gone to far?
Is it simple a bad thing from the jump?

Thanks

Hmmm, just remove the trumpet. I did this on my wife's '95 R.R.C. You could then add a ABS elbow and short length of tube to get the intake above the water line.

That’s determined by how deep of water you plan on driving through. If you don’t ever drive through water(creeks, ditches, rivers) then you don’t need to worry about that.

The stock placement for the air box intake is to get cooler and cleaner air from a location inside the engine compartment. Just take off the trumpet portion or add a hose taking air from someplace else. Most cars take it from the backside of the engine bay away from the engine(pointing to the outside of the fenders but not in a way to ingest extra dust/dirt) or from areas just behind headlights.

I know it's in the opposite direction (down) but: on my Dodge Cummins the 'filter minder' would always be drugged down into the yellow zone even with a new filter under full boost - the resolution was a 4" toilet flange into the base of the airbox with a length of 4" convoluted tubing to bring the opening behind the front bumper where the cooler air might be. I covered the opening with door screen to keep small pets and children from being sucked up.
I'm not sure where there would be a 'safe' source of cool air on a Disco but just a thought...

I once chopped off the trumpet from the airbox to make room for some other equipment.
My oh-so-quiet truck immediately gained annoying droning sound - I lived with it for a few months, and then swapped back an unmolested airbox.
Just sayin'....

Ol ya I hear ya p.m.
A couple years ago I replaced the airbox with a cone filter setup. It was way to noisy and I went back to stock. I removed the trumpet due to the dual battery setup. It’s a tight setup. What I probably should do is cover that area with a screen to prevent any little visitors from moving in. I should do that and just call it a day.

I sealed up mine for the dual battery and routed the air into the side by cutting out the the 200tdi boss on the inner fender. The mantec now makes some interesting bank pneumatic tube noises when you stomp on the gas.
