The story I got with the pics was that the bear was shot by two elk hunters in Ontario Canada. Which makes that an interior bear "Grizzly" and they usually dont get that big like the coastal brown bears.

The story was one hunter was calling elk and the other was off to the side about 80 yards when he saw the bear stocking his buddy. He shot it 5 times and it ended up about 8 yards from the other hunter. I don't know if its BS or not. Pretty clear form the pics that the bear is as big as they claim.

Wow, I've always thought .338 Win Mag would be more than enough for Grizzly, let alone Elk. He could have been shooting some lighter loads for Elk, but that's just wild.

I've never shot a bear so I'm no expert but I was always told that.338 is min for griz/brown bear. Not that many haven't been taken with smaller rounds. My father and law shot one with a 7mm mag years ago.

Damn, your father-in-law's got some big brass ones, dude... I'd be nervous about shooting a brown bear with my 8x57, let alone a grizzly... A 7mm mag??? Wow.

This reminds me of the email floating 'round the webz some years ago about the man-eating grizzly bagged in AK... the one that was 15' tall when on its hind legs, and had somewhere like 30 rounds lodged in it along with the remains of several humans. Bears are freakin' SCARY, man.

I know that plenty of hunters use .300 Win Mags or .300 Weatherbys for Grizzly, but I've read that those are a little light. I just assumed that the .338 Win Mag would be perfect.

Obviously the loads being used makes a huge difference. A ballistic tip bullet is going to be worlds apart from a Barnes solid on bear.

If I'm ever going to be in bear country, I'll get a 375 H&H.

I really doubt that was in Ontario. They are not supposed to range that far east, by any stretch. And, that doesn't look like Ontario forest at all. It looks a lot more like west coast rain forest to me.
