Leslie - aluminium can even burn if it gets enough oxygen :) It doesnt rust , but it reacts with oxygen in lots of conditions. Very slow though.

Peter - dude, its your truck. If you feel like polish and wax it all the time - go with it :) No need to turn Disco into junk-mobile just to get it look tough, IMHO.

Since when does aluminum rust?

Leslie,

The roof, floor pan and A and B pillars are steel and provide a fertile environment for rust.

Regarding the aluminum, In Canada we use a lot of salt on the roads in winter. The salt reacts with the aluminum, especially at the points where the steel and aluminum meet (I think it's called galvanic action). As a result, the area on the inside of the rear door, over the wheel well, is very susceptible to corrosion.

So I suppose you're right, the aluminum doesn't really rust. It just turns to dust.

Galvanic reactions corrode aluminum nicely... looks a lot like green copper dust or so accumulating on there.

Hey Ron great picture!

"Look at the big brain on Brad (Koby)"
any time you can work a pulp fiction quote in anywhere more power to you!

Truth is I have yet to take it out on a trail, wife won't let me until we get another car (hey Ray, why don't you take your balls out of your wife's purse? -The Burbs) I anticipate always having a clean or nice looking car, its my anal nature :)
But when we do get the second car and I get to take it out there will be scratches and maybe even some dents, its not a certainty but I can't expecting anything less.

Oh and just for the record I personally wouldn't give another guy a foot massage nor would I ask for a foot massage from another guy :D

Love the picture Ron.

I'm in the middle on this one, I LOVE my truck when it's clean and shiny....but I also like getting it muddy. After MAR, I usually let the mud stay a day or two, then wash her off. I have learned that it definitely makes things break faster (um, my STARTER) but it's so FUN. I think even when it's clean, people can tell she's been in the dirt by looking underneath! :)

You only look like a poseur if you ACT like a poseur. There is nothing wrong with taking care of your truck.

Which part of the Cat? The area with hair or without? Cause I've seen them rub their hip, just never the ass. I wonder what kind of expression the cat has on it's face. That would be a great photo.

Who the fuck has time to clean? If I had that much extra time I'd hit the list of fixes/installs that are waiting and waiting.....

The only wheels its pulling right now are the rears (on jackstands), I am fabricating new control arms and gathering parts as it has been sitting in the dirt for the last five years. It was retired due to some issues I had with a partner in the car. But now its time to rebuild it. We also found that hauling the new company car in a 40 foot trailer left room to run a second car while keeping the cost at a minimum. Yet another reason to put it together.

Here is the new company car
mustang9.jpg

Its not going to lift that much tire with this set up.

But its brother just hit a 6.42 at over 215 mph in the 1/4 mile hitting the limiter the last 150 feet, with smaller turbos and smaller throttle-bodies.

Not really sure, I have not been following the NMRA, I have been keeping a close eye on the PSCA. Thats where we will be running. I am sure you can find out here www.nmraracing.com and you can keep an eye out for our cars on www.pscaracing.com.

So Bruno tell me, Pushrods or Modular?

B.T.W. Steve Grebeck is no longer with us. The pioneer of mustang racing had a bad crash in Florida, I think last year. If I remember correctly he went through the traps at 204 mph AFTER the collision. So you can only imagine how bad it was.

Well Ron, I'm on the upper end of my 30's decade so I gotta say... pushrods!

Too bad about Steve, I've been out of touch with Donnie for quite some time now , his dad ( DW sr.) was really an inspiration to go Mustang racing.

First of all... there is a lot of steel on the Disco. Even on the body the roof is steel as are other parts, like around the doors and openings... My wheel wells are starting to show signs of rust.

As for keeping it clean. I hate cleaning it and somewhat agree with Randy below about the time and list deal.

One thing I REALLY hate is deep mud. I am still finding chunks that fall out from a mud pit I hit at Hollister hills 7 years ago. I spent about 3 hrs under there then and decided mud is just a PITA, so I avoid it where possible.

But of course there is nothing wrong with keeping it really clean an it is better than leaving it completely muddy/dirty.

Yeah, a lot of the off-road terrain here is muddy and water so whenever I end up washing my car [usually the day after], it takes about 2 hours or so to get everything real clean.. I'm looking to buy a power washer soon though.. but as for keeping it real clean, what I've been doing is if there are very obvious scratches [the whole vehicle is scratched, but some get worse than others], i'll swirl-X them out, but after that I think just a layer of wax [turtle wax, or even from a car wash], does a good job of hiding most of the scratches and making it look good.. one thing that i've found is to make the truck look really good, use the mothers back to black on all of the trim.. just gives it a nice overall clean look.
