Thanks guys. I am going to hit it hard tomorrow and try and finish this project. Also I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to disconnect the cdl linkage from the tcase. It is covered in grease and I am having a hard time seeing it.

Edit: And if anyone is willing to drive down to Huntsville tomorrow and finish this project I will give you my old LT230... Mostly because I am running out of time and my parents have a few other maintenance items I have to address to the rest of the family cars before I go back to school

Some progress this morning:

I did what PT suggested and was able to get this transfer case separated from the transmission. I don't have the hi lo linkage disconnected but almost. The only hard part I am having is this 17mm nut I can't figure out how to undo.

And we still have quite a bit of snow on the ground from the Christmas Snowpocolypse. I think I will eat some oatmeal now to warm me up.

You still have the Y pipe installed? I thought that had to come out? Also it looks like you didnt remove the center console and drill out the rivets....that would make life easier when dealing with the linkage and upper bolts/nuts.

I finally got the new case on today with a help from a friend of mine. I still have to bolt it completely up and reattach everything but it is on the transmission. I also took out the input gear when reinstalling it and can not get the PTO cover back on correctly.

What you talkin bout Willis?

In his picture, the Y pipe looks to be still there...I thought that had to come out. Also, removing the center console and drilling out the rivets makes it easier to access the shit from above. No?
No,done this a hundred times if I did it once and the poor bastard left the shaft on when it was only one bolt from being out of his way completely. as a matter of fact its why he cant get what he is calling the pto cover back on,that and the trans is probably in park. Ya I heard You pt about the seals. I will agree that the trans seal may not like the shaft being pulled out of it,but I bet real money he beat the piss out of the seal on his new t case sliding that thing all the way down that shaft with the exhaust still in his way. I bet that thing leaks like a cow pissin on a flat rock.

I COMMEND you for taking this on yourself.

thats meant seriously

Not me, not on my back or on my driveway.

Thanks. I am going to need some prayer tomorrow that once I get the tailshaft housing in tomorrow it will all go as planned in assembly.

Also noticed today that I bent the bolt that the CDL lever pivots on so I spent part of the day trying to make it halfway decent. Also got to install a spacer lift on my buddy's 4runner which was pretty easy although not as easy as a lift on a disco. It felt good to get a job finished for once this week.

I broke two of them when I took the old transfer case out. The bottom one from trying to pry the transfer case out and the top one I didn't find the bolt and it broke when I took the old case out. The middle ear I broke when I tried to adjust the transfer case to get the CDL lever on.

Things I learned during the swap.
1. Transmission Jack is needed
2. Take the input gear out of the tcase before removal and install of the new one
3. disconnect the CDL linkage before taking the Tcase out
4. Don't take the tcase out right before a snow/ice storm when you are the only 4wd in the family.
