Any idea what would cause this wear?

Any idea what would cause this wear?



It is only on the drivers side.... passenger side looks normal.... thanks!

My guess is that it was caused by the machining process.

It was like that before the motor was even cranked for the first time.

Hmmnn.... so you guys think the block was machined like that from the factory? That would make sense, I couldn't figure out what would even touch there to cause the wear. The other side looks perfectly normal, I wonder why one side would be like normal and the other side would be machined unevenly. Here are the pics of the passenger side.

I was looking at the pics and couldn't figure out what you meant. Your talking about the way the block looks like they just broke away extra slag from the casting with a hammer? I think that's what they did. Looks normal.

I was talking about what looks like something was grinding the metal away right above the lifters on the first set of pictures.
