I don't want to cut my body but am willing to cut off my hitch if a 2" receiver can be integrated with a high degree of confidence in it's load ability. My stock bumper looks like a pretzel with no end caps...

Greg Davis said:OK guys, I had a DI XD in the shop and took the rear bumper off. I studied it from every angle for around 90 minutes and came to the conclusion that.............................there is no practical way to make a bumper that carries on the design and function of my DII bumper for a DI.
Too many things are different. Because the frame and crossmember extend beyond the body, the only way to even come close is to cut off the rear 2/3's of the crossmember and frame section, plate it, and then you still have to figure out how to attach the bumper.
For those type of modifications to be done, you will either pay a shop dearly for it (probably as much as the bumper cost), or do it yourself. If you could do that yourself, then you have the skills to make your own bumper.
I don't like turning down orders, but the only practical way to make a steel rear bumper for the DI is to basically do the same thing that everyone else is, and I'm not a big fan of copying anyone else's design.
Sorry guys, it's just not practical as my design would be anything but a bolt-on, and because of the expense or skills necessary, my market would be very limited, not making it worth my while.
Thanks for all of your support though!

Greg Davis said:Oh, it CAN be done, just not in the same style of my DII - Minimalistic and near bullet-proof. I could easily design a bent-plate style bumper, but you wouldn't gain anything over the competition without seriously modifying the rear of your frame and crossmember - which makes for a very difficult sale to the average wheeler that doesn't have a shop to work in.
Believe me, I WANTED to come on here and say I had a prototype ready, but it just isn't feasible given the DI's design.
