I moved into the office last winter and I rarely get out into the field anymore. But I've done a ton of surveying through the woods and sometimes it gets thick enough that a rodman is necessary, however, I would rather stay solo robotic if I can. Trying to communicate to the other guy exactly where you want the prism can be more frustrating than joy-sticking the gun to find you. I've gotten robotic shots when I couldn't even see the gun through the trees. You are still going to need a machete sometimes.
The worst thing about the robotic total station is on a sunny day, with traffic around, the gun will often pick up the glare from a windshield or a turn signal lens, and before you know it, it will be facing the opposite direction.
