Anyone love their RR more than a Discovery, for reasons other than speed?

I like the fact that the interior of the RRC is wider than the disco, not to mention that the rearward visibility is on a different scale than the disco. I also don't like that the airbag in the disco steering wheel obscures the gauges which it does not do in the classic.

Sold my d2 yesterday just wanted my rrc's. I like the look of classics. Not as many on the road. Easier for me to fix. Dirt cheap. Blow a motor buy a new rr wreck it into a tree buy another. The lwb rides so nice. Drives great who wouldn't like them better than a disco?

I might as well be PT's son. Rrc's just sitting everywhere! Haha

I love my 95 RRC...has all the "luxury" stuff for the missus...I ABSOLUTELY love the back seat room...3 kids and a 100lb dog can go there while all the camping gear goes on the rack, and in the back.

I think the vizibility while off roading is better than the disco, I can look virtually straight down the sides, and I feel I can judge the front corners better.

Also - I love the fact that I have a TRUE tailgate for cooking on, sitting on and all the other things like leaving the hatch open while cruising down the highway with all the windows down....NOTHING beats that - except a convertible RRC...hmmmmmm???

Couple of things I dont like - which I am in the process of fixing (that the Disco is better with):
1. HEADROOM.....I cant stand this part, I will figure a way to deal with that one day!!!!
2. CDL - I have put a Disco LT230 in now to fix that small drawback


SO - Absolutely no contest as far as I am concerned....I will NEVER get rid of my Classic....Wife will go first!! :D :D :D

I like my wifes P38 more than my D2. rides better, tons quieter and nicer and can see better out of the vehicle. and honestly, it is better off road too. (if it had a locking t-case, it would smoke a D2 off road)

but at 88k new compared to 34k for my d2, it better be better....

I would have to second a few of you guys, while I have not owned a disco 1 or 2, i have owned 4 classics and 2 p38's. driven many dealer's and customer's discos thou.
rangies are much roomier, better for towing, driver's position is bettter ( seems you have a better field of vision.
currently owned classics, 87, 92county, 95 county lwb. past owned a 90county, a2001
henkels and henkels and a 2000hse last two p38's.
all of them went off road at least once during the first couple of weeks of ownership, I loved the articulation capability of the eas (some guys may argue it sucks bla, bla to each their own) over the conventional susp.
but to compare rr over disco off road is difficult with out putting the eas on top... con ventional coils they are equally capable.
now if you throw custom susp work you start a "my d**k is bigger than yours argument". between owners, purists and those who realize that no matter what, the truck has a limit.
I have difficulty seing my self owning a disco partly due to the inside room comparison.

Got rid of my 98 disco for a 99 rangie 4.6 hse night and day. Granted the range will cost more for up keep than the disco but will be worth it. Bigger interior,more power, and just overall good looks

Disco's: Too often equated as soccer/tennis mom & spoiled-bratt-kid SUV's; plasticy; lacks character. Note- I'd still take one to beat on, just not first choice.

RRC: Original old-school, sixties design; more roughneck.

P38: "Cool" factor down from RRC, but would still take over a Disco b/c it was built to be the top-of-the-line, higher caliber/higher perf vehicle; would use for more on-road driving.

Now while I love my DI and absolutely adore my IIa, I'm gonna have to say my fave was my '97 P38. It was just comfortable beyond belief, I loved the body lines, and found the clamshell style tailgate more practical than the side opening Disco tailgate. Damn I miss my P38 and wish I had kept it. :(

Picking a P38 over a DI would be as smart as picking Paris Hilton over Diane Lane. Simply put........a mistake.

"Built to be top of the line" might have been their goal, but.............

Correction- Would rather a P38 when working correctly. Agreed- definitely more complicated than DI.

True- Disco tailgates straight blow chunks.

Complicated isn't necessarily the issue with them. It's that they are generally problematic vehicles. If it is working correctly, just give it time. It won't be long until it isn't.

The P38 is the last vehicle I want if I am looking for solid transportation provided by Land Rover. A well maintained D1 or RRC is far more forgiving and reliable. Eeek. Did I just say reliable?

DIIs are a close second to the P38s.

the range just had class all around. cant say so about the disco but i feel better beating up the disco and its just easier to maintain i feel. (thats personal opinion tho..many say otherwise)

The RRC is my all-time favorite vehicle. Gorgeous exterior, the Rangie is the only car to have been displayed in the Louvre as a work of art, and deservedly so. The interior is very tasteful and comfortable, but as a tall guy I found the headroom a bit snug. Off-road it was superb. In winter driving conditions the VCU was a great feature, but in the mud I couldn't be quite sure it locked up completely. The 3.9 was a great engine, it never gave me any trouble.

There was very little I disliked about the RRC. The main drawback I found was that the climate control system was engineered by the same guys that designed Stonehenge. All the levers had some purpose, but nobody knew what.

By contrast I fit better into my D1, the climate controls are intuitive, and I like having more cargo space in the load area. The off road performance is about the same, which is to be expected given the amount of shared componentry. I don't feel quite as regal in my Disco, but I am growing to love it. My 4.0 has held up well so far.

Availability of parts and upgrade/accessory options is about the same for both.

Just had this conversation with Jen on Thursday. I really think my 04 D2 is amazing.
It's probably the best car I've owned. But... when I get in my 98 P38 I feel different.
People admire my car. It's truly a gentlemen's automobile.
