Welcome! I work at UVA and live about 30 minutes west of here....we try to get some folks together and go to Shoe Creek or other play areas when we can (once my husband's AAU baseball season is over)-we have friends with Rovers and a friend with a loaded Rubicon that head out with us. Makes for fun times!

Feel free to email if you have any questions or want to meet up!

I understand how the factory rails and crossbars act to provide an effective full rack in conjunction with the back pack but I'd really like to see a truck with the backpack and the front rails completely removed. I think that would look especially clean and sorted out. To me the rails/crossbars in addition to the back pack makes it look like you've got two racks on there. This is mostly just a style suggestion and I'm only throwing it out there for discussions sake, but I think that a clean roof with just the back pack would look bitchin. Or a low back pack half rack in front in place of the factory rails.
hmmm...

oh, as an aside, last time I was at Kyle's I dropped off my Yakima Powder Hound and old 157cm snowboard. he was gonna see how well that whole thing would work/fit to the rack as well.

hey robbie,
let me us know how the board mounts up, i've actually talked to kyle (via email) about doing the setup you are talking about a few weeks ago. i need a way to get boards up there on my yakima mounts. i was hoping they would attach to the end round bars, but i haven't measured Curtis' rack to verify if it would work.

Well Alan - as we discussed earlier, I realy dig mine. I run the factory crossbars and it makes for a virtual full rack without the height, noise, or drag issues of tranditional racks. The factory crossbars make a little wind noise with the roof open, but I can't even tell the backpack is there.

As far as install and removal: four bolts and 30 pounds so if you ever do want to take it off, it is a five minute one-man job under the worst of circumstances.

damn Curtis...lookin good, man....

definitely will do. eyeballing it, kyle thought the mounts look like they would fit the bars, but we didn't test fit at all. we also weren't sure if the ends of a board/set of skis would stick off the rear too much. not a physical detriment, but maybe not all that asethetically pleasing. he has the rack right now for powdercoating. i'll make sure to take some pics when he gets back and i go back over there if we can get it to work/look ok.

robbie,
i measured the yakima cross bars (1.125") and kyle said he could match the tubing, but i wasn't sure about the spread lenght between the mounts and where it would hit the boards . i Let kyle know that once we figured it out, i wanted one. :)

haha, no wonder he was asking me all those questions about me snowboarding and the racks and shit ;)

i've got the yakima powderhound with him now (the bigger one), but i also have the shorter thule board carrier that i can take over there (the mounts on that are square though, so may need to find different mounts) if the yakima is too wide. i have a feeling he can get it to work

Marc - you are more than welcome to come over this evening, share some suds, and measure my rack...as long as you bring those much coveted lower shock mounts:)

Yes I am taking direct orders and No I am not taking direct orders. I have a few racks pending right now and I am waiting to get some feet sent to me. Once I clear those I will take in some orders again... Just working alone , if I kept taking orders in I would freak out completely...
