I've got my route planned out for a 7 day ride on my KTM (and friend on a Triumph Tiger) starting in Tecate (well San Diego really) and headed down Baja in late February.

We are shipping the bikes out from Virginia, flying out and then doing the ride.

But I'm looking for any good input in terms of some must see "waypoint" spots. I've been to Baja a few times many years ago, but never quite like this. As I mentioned I've got a solid route planned with help from people that ride Baja many times a year, but looking for other suggestions as well.

This is my route:

Day one
Crossing at Tecate
Riding down the ruta del vino to Ensenada
Ensenada to Mike's Sky Rancho

Day two (all off road)
Mike's across the mountains on the 500 route to Meling Ranch

Day three
Meling to Bahia de los angeles

Day four
Ride the back road to Mission San Borja back to the west and reconnect with Mex 1, ride to San Ignacio

Day Five
San Ignacio and maybe ride to the whale watching lagoon, or take the back road to LA Bay via el Arco

Day Six
Ride to Gonzaga Bay through Cocos Corner

Day Seven
Gonzaga back to Tecate

You pretty much are hitting the best spots...there's a black lava beach north of Bahia LA that's a nice ride, off mx3...

You have a great trip planned and I was going to be there around that time.... I'll wear my TRA hat.... You're gonna have a blast.

I doubt I have your email address still, so send it to me and I'll let you what the details are. garrett(at)teamrover.com

I'm really just going for the tacos. I do love me some Mexico. I think the next trip might be to Copper Canyon and some interior places I've been tracking via Motorcycle Mexico. Some outstanding riding down there. Trying to get Ricky Johnson (moto/trophy truck guy) to come down and join us.

Any of you been to Scorpion Bay? I was on the phone with Ricky Johnson (Baja racer - been down there countless times) today and he HIGHLY suggests stopping there on the way back north to San Quintin.

He's going to send me some of his race routes via an app he really likes - LeadNav. He's also suggesting I have a guy "close by" for mechanical issues, etc. He has a few guys he uses for races and just casual riding trips down Baja and says it's super cheap to have them on stand by at various locations.

If you end up in San Felipe don't eat the salsa at Mariscos La Morena. There's a story there, but I don't want to get into it.

It can't be much worse than the Hakarl (fermented shark)I ate in Iceland.

Quite a bit has changed in terms of water quality in Mexico in the past decade. I've eaten salad, use ice cubes and drink the water when I've traveled there in the past 10 years - no ill effects.

Except for those pesky brain worms. Did Animal Planet ever pay for that episode of Monsters Inside Me?
