This may be the General section but my comments apply to the whole board. Is it just one big General internet web chat with a little side order of LR?

So what would you like to see done Jack? Ban all the folks that you don't think belong? Make another Lounge section for certain people only? I'm sure you, Ho, and Axel could figure some thing out. It's their site maybe they agree with you and will do some thing about it..

Jack, in a way you are absolutely right. And in a way you are talking out the side of your mouth. You are the same JSQ who nuked the coiler LR3 guy in the LR3 section, right? I popped on the board one day and saw 'JSQ' as the last poster there, out of the corner of my eye so I check it out. Hmmm...did Jack buy a new truck? Nope, he's just bashing some dumb schmuck who loves his LR3. How's that any different than this 1200 post waste of time? Oh, right...you were talking about Rovers....:victory:

You are a great resource for info and excellent pics...the best way for you to have the Dweb you want is for you to do just that. Talk your tech and post your trips. Dweb needed the detailed build of your 110, but only the truncated version made it here. Had to hit EE to get the goods.:(

Nahh friend

Susannah,

I seriously can't believe you are going to stick your neck out on this one.

You seem nice enough and you seem to like LRs, but I have no choice but to call you out on your post.

Roverlady said:
What I find the most interesting about this "current state" and this thread in general...
is that JSQ called ME out for posting a number and I have since moved on... some 140 posts have been made since then and you guys are BOTH still here 'discussing' the world. :p

I used your post of a # as an example. We both know it was one of many like it. That makes you just as guilty as the rest, but it doesn't single you out in any particular way. You, however, have elected to take offense. Why is that?
Well it's quite simple. Because you know that my posts about the state of dweb hit very close to home for you. I'm talking about the general populace, but we both know everything I have written applies to Roverlady.

Roverlady said:
Here's what happened to Dweb...we all got such good information from each other that our trucks are running fine and we need time to bs. Not to mention the fact that we are all busy at work and don't get to wheel as much as we'd like, but want to stay connected to other Rover people. This month, I will see my LR friends more at casual, social outings than I will on the trail. I see nothing wrong with that!! AND it's winter so we are all spending more time indoors than we would like. I'm sure the general section will calm down this summer.

LOL.
What a pathetic defense.

Your truck is running fine?
You're too busy at work?
It's winter?

What else you got?

We all know that these trucks always break down at the same perpetual rate. They didn't all magically get fixed because we are all just so darn smart and have told each other everything there is to know about LRs or because Chris St. Louis showed up. The only difference is that as the years have passed and the trucks have gotten cheap, the vast majority of dweb trucks are beaters now. That means when the shit is falling apart, nobody cares. Nobody even notices because the trucks are so fucked up to begin with. No one hardly ever posts the head gasket questions that were so prevalent in the old days, because now they just let the fucker leak like a sieve and top up the coolant every day.

Everyone's too busy with work? Well I see people finding the time to post. I also still see people finding the time to go out on trips. But it's the same people who always have made it out. The same people who ACTUALLY offroad.
Guess what?
You're not one of them.
You don't offroad. You go to MAR.
MAR is fine (if that's your bag) as your social rally in between real trips. But if MAR is all the "wheeling" you do, you're just a poseur. Face it Sus, you're not an offroader. Dont' start make excuses for it. It only makes it worse. I don't remember reading about a single trip you've ever done. Not one. Just MAR or maybe Uhwarrie or something. I haven't even seen a pic of you on a dealer run.

It's winter so no one is wheeling?
That might be true for you, but it's no excuse for the majority. Out West this is primetime. I hardly go out in the summer. It's too hot. I'm sure the same is true for the Utah boys. Oh that's right, they actually offroad. This is no East vs. West battle. This is just me calling you out on a bullshit excuse. Right now people are going to the Maine Winter Romp and I'm sure the likes of dchapman and the ECP are out in the cold and mud doing whatever it is they do. There's not shortage of opportunities wherever you are or whatever time of year it is. If you love it and you live it, you'll find a way.

Roverlady said:
I like to read just about every section here and don't bother with too many other forums on the net. I will occasionally read some posts from another place, check EE for the latest trip pictures, read Rangerovers.net for tech advice and look at the ROAV forum and home page. But I'm not involved in conversations on any other forums and I don't think it wise to spend my time doing so. Dweb is home. ;)

It cracks me up how you can't figure out you've been banned from the EE board.
"For some reason I can't post?"
LOL.
I mean seriously, get a clue.

Roverlady said:
I get blasted for posting more General than technical, especially lately. But wouldn't it be stupid of me to post a little bit of nothing in a technical thread if I have nothing to contribute or to share? I feel stupid just saying "Yeah, I've got the same problem but haven't really diagnosed it" as it is.

So, let's just be glad all this crap is in the right section.

:victory:

You still don't get it do you?

It doesn't just boil down to General vs Tech.
It's about content.
It's about worthless posts, that aren't informative, aren't clever, aren't on topic and aren't even funny.
It's about posts that are the text equivalent of a string of smilies.

I've obviously never had a personal problem with you. I haven't "attacked" you for anything, and we've chatted back and forth.

But if you start cheerleading for the new all-bullshit dweb, in the middle of a discussion about the state of affairs, expect me to respond.

Fuck no.
That shit has been tried and it doesn't work.
The collective standard has to be changed.
I know that you have seen, just as I have, that someone getting their ass handed to them sets them straight on their bullshit far better than banning them ever would.
It's a lot more work, but it's a lot more effective.
But it requires a lot of participation. More than just me.

Luckily, I see some other people doing it. I'm not the only one.
And that gives me hope.

I just bought a Range Rover Discovery LWB County, with the factory bling package.
The wheels are 22", what's the biggest tire I can put on it?
I don't take it offroad, and it needs to fit into the parking garage at the yacht club.

Has anyone used the new tire spray that keeps dirt from sticking to the rubber?

My friend sent me a link to something called "spray on mud", but I don't understand what it's for?

I didn't know which "tech" section to post in, since I have a Range Rover Discovery, and your website splits that into 2 different sections.

I tried posting on Pirate4x4, but they weren't very nice, and they made my mangina hurt. LRO seems like very nice people, though.

Thanks for all your help.

Don't post the answers here, I'm far too busy to check. Please send all responses to my email address.

I'm confused are you saying there was no tech or offroading discussion in raised air intake? What's the point?
What point are you trying to make?

I think that thread is a perfect example of what this one is not.

Whether it's a tech answer or an interweb battle, that thread only went to 7 pages and it's done.
It's run it's course.
Go read it. Almost every single post advances the thread. It's all either discussion or argument or something of substance.

It's a good read.
It's got some tech and it's got some battle.

As some of the posters in that thread pointed out, it's VERY reminiscent of the dweb of old.
I for one would be ecstatic if more threads were like it.

Jack - I will be honest with you. That thread was far from good or entertaining and was probably more responsible for my original post to you than any other single post. It was pretty much just you beating up on an LR3 owner. I guess you could call it "calling him out", but even that is a stretch. I have not read it all the way through, but it looks like he held his own for at least a little while.

If your mission in that thread was to improve Dweb, you did just the opposite.

Jesus CHRIST Jack!!! PMS much?!

I'll respond with these few items:
1. I know I was "banned" from EE. I make JOKES about not being able to post. Funny thing is that I've only posted on there what, 3 times? And I'm pretty sure I had only complimentary things to say...but you don't see me starting an entire thread just to bitch about it. If that is your little gentleman's club, then I guess I'm not welcome.

2. I didn't take offense to your 'singling' me out on the number post. I just mentioned the fact that YOU are the one who revived the damn thread!

3. I love off-roading, but you are right, I don't LIVE it. I have other hobbies. I have friends. And I have other interests that require money besides my Rover. Half the time I don't go on wheeling trips because I really don't want to break a bunch of shit on my truck and spend the money to fix it. I guess that makes me a poser. Fine, I don't mind being called that. I use my truck every day to drive to/from work, haul people, haul gear, haul my dogs, drive through the fields where I keep my horse, drive in the snow/ice when we get it and enjoy it on occasional trips off-road. I don't think that makes me any less of a Land Rover owner.

4. Yes, I've done a few trips besides MAR, if you are interested to know. But I don't write long-winded accounts of where I've been and what I've seen or eaten for each weekend event. That's why I enjoy reading, and looking at, YOUR posts and EE's site.

5. If you think owning a Land Rover requires someone to be a wealthy, dry-humored, snob, then you've got the wrong idea. Shit Jack, I came from a wealthy family too, but I'm not acting like a bitch to a bunch of people on the other side of the country that I've never met. I actually KNOW (face-to-face) a lot of the people on this board. I enjoy their company, their opinions and their sense of humor. I guess when I ever get a chance to drive out West in my Rover and meet you face to face, I'll have more to say about YOU. But I TRY to reserve my judgements for REAL people, not just internet 'pals'.

Then who are these people, Jack? Name them. Be positive for a change. My only problem is that you are so negative. I can understand you being frustrated or annoyed, but any great manager, parent, leader, etc knows that in order to get others to listen to you, you have to mix criticism with praise. All you've done is criticize. You are like a lion, targeting the weak animal and then ripping their guts out. You seem to live for those moments. I know many of us enjoy watching these spectacles, but it gets old if that's all you do.
It's no wonder people are turning on you. Your good points are being lost in your scathing (albeit sometimes humourous) tone.

"calling him out" describes it accurately enough for me.
I think I did just that.
And I think I identified him as bullshit poseur before other people, especially those with LR3s or who are thinking about buying LR3s, started to listen to him.
I also think, maybe, just maybe it left an impression on him.
It's possible that nwoods might have gotten checked just like Gil or I did long ago and learned from it.
Maybe he's figuring out how to get into an LR3 with a locker as we speak.
Maybe now he knows the difference between a diesel and a gasoline motor.
I don't think that's "a stretch".

Now I see....I understand it all so clearly. Jack is pissed off b/c he got picked-on when he was green to Dweb or Land Rovers...and he wants to take all of that pent-up frustration out on everyone else. Makes perfect sense.

Either that, or Mr. Quinlan forgot to take his pills to control his bipolar disorder. Manic cycle this month?

Dish it out Jack. I can take it. Anyone who knows me can vouch that I'll stand up for what I say or admit when I'm wrong. I'll usually take the upper hand too. I mean, shit, you've given me so much ammunition for joking, but I don't think that is necessary, do you?! Grace and patience are virtues. You can't buy them or build them. And you shouldn't have to PROVE them.

I got checked a few times as well, and yes, I did learn from it. In 2000 Kyle and I were quite well known for our battles between the D2 and D1. There were plenty of others too.

But there was a difference between a Kyle lashing and yours: Kyle was an asshole, but he did not necessarily try to demoralize someone who was just wrong. He would wait until they went on and on. Sometimes he would even let people go on for weeks before he chimed in and by then he had plenty of ammo. It was usually quite good if you were not on the receiving end.

In your case, you start off with a more John Lee type approach. It worked for John...sometimes, but sometimes it just made people mad. Others who tried the approach like Agro and Craig Kyobashi pissed everyone off as well and you are on your way. Mind you, I like Craig and John (don't know Agro) and have hung out with both. I find both of them to be extremely pleasant people to hang out with in person and call them both friends. I am just talking about tact.

Really, I like the suggestion that was mentioned before. You are good with the camera, the truck, and the food. I know you don't like my "advice", but I would suggest keeping in tune with those things you enjoy and are good at. They serve as an excellent example to the community of the way it could be. Ignore the idiots.

I don't think that's "a stretch".

Your attitude about it sucked though, and I think thats the reason why you posted it. Attitude. Screw poseur, man. You identified him as someone who you could easily take some techno jabs at for your benefit. He may have learned something, but I think that something is more likely that Dweb is full of jerks rather than any opinions you have about what does or doesn't constitute a well appointed LR3 for off road use. (which of course is a useless arguement in any context...:D ) I still think you'd have done more to get Dweb back to where it was when I found it if you'd posted as many threads about your MOD build instead.
