wow.. good reading on a snowy southern morning. even the pyschos came out of the woodwork threatening real world harm. are u kidding me? jack is right.. matt taylor is right.. eric is right.. this dweb is a weak shadow of what it once was. and while jacks tactics may appear "harsh", you can tell they are derived from a passionate stance on the current state of dweb. personally, i know the old dweb and as ive been off the board for years, i dont know the new dweb all that well, and in a way im glad i dont. other than the DII CV stuff and the guy who stuffed fzj80 axles under his DII there is nothing progessive on here. maybe the limits of what you can do with these trucks has been met? or maybe nobody really does anything with them any longer? i think the fact that this came up in the general section is a shame, because it is the general, "fluff" section, but this arguement pertains to the entire board. and no offense here, but when one of the prominent posters sell his disco for an element and still comes here, it shows precisely what the direction of this board has become, and that is a social network. not that there is anything wrong with elements, or the guy who got one, but when that is the prevailing train of thought, that indicates that the board has gone awry. im glad to see folks like les, eric, jack, sus, dan, g-man etc are still here and i think deep down we would all like to see a more focused and controlled board. and there is nothing wrong with fluff, and all the bull shit that goes on in the general section, but its when the bullshit becomes the board, its an issue.

Well, not to add more useless stuff to this thread ( I've already added plenty before when I was screwing around ) but, I for one would like Chris to stay around even if he does have an Element.. The guy knows rovers and how to fix them.. He is a wealth of knowledge about them and although I have been poking fun at him lately I certainly wouldn't over look any repair advice that he gives. Hell, maybe now he can help me fix my Honda too. Oh, wait, it's a Honda it won't need fixing until the warranty runs out in 6 more years.. :D

Really though, I for one ( not sure if others feel this way or not seems like you sort of do ) have been here for a long time and have seen almost ( 90% ) of the tech questions asked over and over again.. The general section maybe filled with fluff but, at least it's some thing new and not the same repeated tire questions, lift questions, and what's the best cup holder that my starbucks cup will fit in.. I don't know, I'm sure that I am guilty of "fluffing up" some posts, maybe it's out of boredom, I don't know but, fluff in the general section doesn't really bother me as much since it is the general section. Of course I'd like to see the Tech section fluff free..

However, I do disagree with the social network aspect though.. Sure the B.S. in the general section is a different type of B.S. then it used to be but, this has always been more of a group of folks shooting the shit, swapping jokes, and talking about going out and meeting up or what they felt was wrong with the world.. It's always been a speek your mind type of section the only real difference is that the minds of changed.

I don't know man.. I'm not really sure what I think anymore.. I've meet a number of great people over the years because of this site and the general B.S. section that I would have never meet if it wasn't here..

I posted a few pages ago wondering what Axel and Ho get out of this site anymore that makes them keeping paying the bills.. They must see something worth while since I'm still able to post on their site and the website link still works in my bookmarks when I click on it.

Oh well, I'm just rambling at this point.. I need more coffee..

I get the feeling that the "redneck" was someones husband and if someone was picking on my wife I'd have some thing to say about it too.. Family sticks up for family..

If I remember that correctly, the person had emailed Kyle off of the thread with a threat of spamming/sending viruses to everyone on Dweb....

And, the person would come back under an IP of the group, then Kyle would ban the entire range of IP's.... from there, it gets fuzzy... while I remember the first couple of successful followups, I seem to recall that they did end shortly after that... I don't who it was, and if they were really gone eventually or if they are one of the many ones whom banning wasn't permanent.... I mean, this is just a BBS on the internet, right? Give someone several months to cool off, and is there really a reason to keep them banned forever? Eventually they'll grow board w/ attempts and go away, and if they bother to come back in the future, maybe they'll behave... it's happened several times over before...

 This was definetly not me! He just blocked my IP and called me a moron, so I logged back on and thanked Kyle for bringing the site back up. No harm intended for the site or any users.

I think that Dweb is one of the best sources for classified advertising in this niche. Is the revenue from sales enough to keep Dweb afloat?

Current statistics...Members: 8,394, Active Members: 2,129

That seems like a good amount of traffic, I dont know.

This ridiculous fluff of a thread has had almost 18,000 views!

It isn't a social network for Land Rover people? I met some really great people thanks to this board. Your right, I dont have one anymore, but I am still involved in Rovers quite a bit. Shoot, I plain cannot keep up with the private emails I get asking questions about their Rovers.

So, I post tech stuff on the tech forums, and goof around on the General one. Nothing wrong with that the way I see it..... This board has some of the funniest people I've seen, and I really enjoy watching them make fun of people.

I brought up the idea of going away with some of the people here... I was happy to do it, but they felt I was still welcome and still contribute to the greater good.

So, is this a place that after you dont have a Rover anymore, you aren't welcome? If it is, I sure misunderstood.

hey chris.. i guess your the element guy ;)

no, im not saying it isnt a place to hang out, it always has been. and like i said theres nothing wrong with you getting an element. we all have different needs. and i dont think you misunderstood anything, nor am i suggesting you should leave. who am i to suggest that anyway? the point was that the mindset of the board has changed and the element was a just the first example that came to mind.

Yeah look at the great St. Pat's day you had last year thanks to this board. :applause:

I know you were just using it as an example..

Different people have different mind sets, different feelings, and different opinions.. The BBS is made up of those people.. It really never will be what it once was without the same people and the same mind sets and even then it will still be different.. But, for all the folks that are useless (I'm sure there are a number of people that feel I'm useless) there are some good folks here too, even if the BBS isn't what it used to be.. Some times you just have to wade through the shit to get to the roses if you catch my meaning.

It's not just St. Pat's day, everytime we go out we leave with a story. Even when Curtis came out with his son we left with some stories to tell. It seems like everytime we get together the stars align.

Thats fair..... And, I agree. I brought it up with some here because if thats the direction the majority wants to go, I'm happy to be a footnote is history. :)

I was told otherwise. :)

The reason I showed up here in the first place was I heard so many people that either couldn't figure out the problem, or their repair shop couldn't find the problem.

Either way, it was a lack of information, information that I had. So, I thought I would help the car line that has been very good to me.

A few of my collegues in the field gave me some grief telling me that I was taking money from them, And I strongly disagreed. MOST Land Rovers out of warranty aren't going to a dealer, and most dealer guys I know are happy about that.

They are fixed by their owners or indipendant "mom and pop" shops... And, lots of times, the information isn't there.

They way I saw/see it, I'm HELPING the brand by letting people to own them enjoy them longer, and maybe someday buy another one...... No-one is going to buy another car they can't fix, or get fixed.

The more I hung out on here, the more I liked the people I met. It was really a ton of fun to me to post lame shit and watch the reaction.

BUT! Tech is tech.... I stay focused there, but in general, why not have some fun. :bigok:

That was a riot. I will never forget three things: (1) The "blowout' Bimmer (2) How good that local root beer was Bennett ordered (3) How hot and humid it is in STL in August.

...not to mention the great camaraderie, cigars, and rambling.

And, 1200 miles into Honda ownership.... No complaints... Except the Passenger seatbelt locks too often.... But, thats not MY problem. ;)
