What the biggest tire I can put on a D1 with a 3" RTE lift with minimal rubbing?

Please send pics with the setup if you got 'em.

Thanks,
Patrick

Lift doesn't matter. Open the wheel arches up and you can run whatever you want. I have 37s on the way and have a 3in lift. I'm running 35s now

@lunchbox...thx but I don't want to trim the arches. Want to keep the arches stock but still have some meaty tires that will still tuck up within the fender wells when fully articulated.

My statement stills holds true. Then measure how wide the arches are. Subtract a couple of inches. And that's how big of a tire you can run.

Having a 2" with 32's or a 3" with 33's doesn't matter. When you stuff them you're going to mash your fenders, period.
You can always leave your sways connected and limit your articulation to help save the fenders but whats the point? You're better off trimming your fenders cleanly right off the bat rathet than dealing with a smashed one later.

your axles on the otherhand can handle much less.
I beg to differ - but I keep spares handy.

Everything that's been said about uncut D1's tire sizes is true. The rear wheel arches are ridiculously narrow.

I have been running 33's for a while now, even though I always heard 32" max.
I have never broken an axle... yet. I am really rough on them too.
You(*pointing finger) just can't bounce up shit or turn hard while in the skinny peddle. It's operator error at that point.

That said, I am concidering going with 35's

Patrick, 265/75's with no trimming is your best bet. Looks good too.

I still have your straps, Ill get them in the mail one of these days.

They are still right where you left them, wrapped around that motor.

diff type will play a role in axle life too, open diffs are usually more friendly since they will let torque switch to the side easier to spin, lessing a chance of axle snappage on bigger tires

I've been running 265/75 M/Ts for the last 4 years, including some decent mileage off pavement, and still on factory axleshafts (211kmi).

a guy I wheel with is on 31x10.50's and he has busted a few cv's. on stupid easy trails. and he knows the limitations of the axles and is ginger to them... here the trails are in meters, not miles though (short).

those are only 31.6
I know how to read the sidewall numbers, thanks.
Also, I have a couple of spare 265/75R16s in my garage sitting on top of a 31x10.5 - 265/75s are more than an inch larger in diameter.
Most tires' nominal diameters differ from what the sidewalls say. Some are larger, some are smaller. BFG 35x12.5R15s I had on my SJ Cherokee were barely more than real 33" in diameter.

Kyle - there were some meters in these miles, as well. I would also argue that bombing down desert washes may be detrimental to the axleshafts, too.
Last time I had the rear axleshafts out, the left one had about a full turn of twist in it. Hence carrying the spares around.
