Bleed screw left town? Rad hose leak - seen this one before?

Got out of the truck after dinner tonight and smelled my favorite smell - trouble. Praying it was some ambient smell and my truck didn't piss all over the ground I opened the hood. Damnit.

No good - looks like the bleed screw decided to snap itself off. Excellent! So half of it is still in there and I guess there's an O-ring that seals the fluid, it ain't sealing any more.

So do I need a new radiator hose? Worth trying to extract the stub broken down inside? The plastic must have become brittle over years with heat and coolant exposure.

I need this puppy back up by Friday for a trip - any help is appreciated!

Thanks guys

Jon

Wow that happened to me the first 20 minutes of owning my Landy. The first of many problems.
LOL
The newer hose is better designed. That hose costs around $86.

Does it come with a bleed screw? Do you have a link I can order it from over nighted, or should I go to the dealership?

i had the newer style bleed screw break also. The top will shear off and coolant will pee all over the place. I wasn't able to find a replacement bleed screw from the dealership/AB/RN so had to order the whole hose. Luckly the sheared off top was hanging by a little piece of plastic and I was able to jb weld it back together. It stays in the glove box as an emergency spare.

I replaced one with a bolt and "o" ring instead of replacing the hose with the newer style. It has worked just fine and should continue to do so as long as the owner doesn't tighten the bolt too tight.

The stealership charges $8 for just the screw. As for the piece broken off in the hose...if you're feeling up to it...you could pop it out and get the screw part out without needing to get a new hose. It is a plastic piece glued to the inside of the hose. It's probably more trouble than it's worth. Who knows...

Is this the part I need? I didn't get a good look at what is on the truck currently. This seems to be it though.

I can over night that :(

Thats the hose you need. I just did mine recently, same thing happened with the bleed screw, leaking coolant around there...
How many miles on your truck?
might want to change thermostat while you're having fun with upper hose... and you definitely need to have OAT-dexcool in that cooling system... Atlantic British is about $85 for that upper hose and a new t/stat...

I have been hearing that Dexcool is bad. Or at least it should be change a lot more than it was suposed to be. I would use the good old green stuff myself. What makes the D2 need dexcool anyway.

Looks like you could just use a bolt with an oring in it to me.

Thats list price. Same price if I got it for you. The mark-up is nill on that hose. Overnight shipping would run $25. Just go to the dealer and save the shipping. Yes the bleed screw is included. It's much bigger so it won't fit your original hose. My bleed screw also took out most of the threads so I had to update.

I found this 03 04 bleed screw at BMW for $3.66. Land Rover Dallas no longer carries it and would rather sell the entire $80 upper hose unit assembly.

Because the DII requires OAT coolent and Dexcool happens to be OAT. The DII has a lot of plastic and aluminum in the cooling system. Whatever you do, don't mix the two.

The reason they don't sell the bleed screw is because they leak. Land Rover updated the hose incorporate a plastic "T" with a better bleed screw.

I personally only run green coolant in my DII, and I know quite a few others that do as well.

Reading this thread, and the one Chris linked to, left me confuzzled. Now I'm going to drain my coolant every two weeks by pumping it out the top of my radiator with a Shop Vac, alternate replacing it with green & Dexcool, move to northern Saskatchewan, and never drive my truck faster than 20 miles per hour. That should do the trick, huh?

I have the T, but my original bleed screw was seeping from the center and NOT the O-Ring. Strange. Now I have two stout Beamer bleed screws and no seeping anymore.
