A friend of mine was on a trip with his girlfriend her mid 2000's 330I He had a flat and claims that that car doesn't have a space for a spare tire so they had to get it towed to a tire shop. This has to be wrong. She either bought it without a spare or was to stupid to know where it is?

The e90 BMWs didn't have spares. Kinda sucks - we have a 2006 330i and it doesn't have a spare. I just put 2 cans of fix-a-flat in it and keep my fingers crossed.

A lot of new cars aren't coming with a spare. Saves on cost and claims to help them make their EPA mileage. I still think it's gay.

With certain optional configurations (5+2 seating), the new 2014+ Range Rover Sport doesn't come with a spare tire either - or run flats. You get a can of Fix-A-Flat and a small 12V air compressor instead.

That's right . Jags done it for years . GM gave the same little canister if the stuff rover uses and it hooks up to a portable compressor in the kit . I had to use it one time and it did get me 50 miles to work that morning . I picked up a piece of metal really close to the side wall . I used the sealant stuff and the compressor that came with the car . Then just monitored the tire psi from the info center and pulled over to fill it up about 4 times . When I was getting close to work the stuff was sealing it pretty well .

I feel a little better about the whole no spare thing after that . But I also cleaned the shit out of the pressure sensor and that never failed . I hear if you don't clean that out it may fail.

Think about the last time you got a flat? For me it was 1997. How much is wasted in spares that just go to the recycler. If you live in a city why bother. If you drove a ton of miles, sure, or if you live in the boonies.

Everyone should have one of these in the vehicle:

Yep, just broke mine out to repair the VW Polo tire from a screw which was causing a slow leak.

Our 2012 VW Polo has no spare or for that matter a jack.

Just a can of Fix-a-Flat and a small air compressor.

When I change to winter tires, use the Rover bottle jack and a tire iron that we had to purchase.

We were in Italian Alps off-roading with a group of Rovers from GB.

One Rover had to yield to an oncoming vehicle and hit a small wooden stake hidden by grass.

Totally ripped his sidewall and tire went flat immediately.

Yeah, I carry a full size spare on the Rangie.

A year ago. In Raleigh. BMW picked up a screw at 70mph. By the time I was able to slow down and pull over the side wall was thrashed. Replaced with the doughnut in 20 min and was on my way.

Our most recent flat was less than two months ago. The Wife popped a curb and cut the sidewall. Same as Scott, we swapped on the doughnut and were on our way.

1 year ago. I was driving down I90 and the shitty resurfacing job they did a while back started to come apart. I was driving behind a semi and the trailer started bouncing and a piece of asphalt popped up in the road. Blamo!

Anyways, my Audi Q7 has a really tiny spare that has to be inflated. It took me an hour or so from start to finish to get back on the road. Ironically, it took the tire dealer about the same amount of time to replace all 4 tires.
