If someone sends me their broke ass LR jack, I'll do a tech write-up on how to rebuild them so you can all go bitch about coolers again.

The cradle just knocks of with a good slap of a sledge. After that you can start taking all apart. Its full of seals that are pretty common if you have a box of o rings. When I was involved in the salvage business I had a fleet of those jacks that we used on tear down racks.
I had about a 50/50 success rate on rebuilding them. Messy job but some days had nothing better to do.

That's fucking great. It's going to be time to bitch about coolers soon. I'm thinking Orca or the China built knockoffs this year.
I would look for a Disco 1 jack. I'm not sure how they changed when the Disco2 came out but they started leaking when they where brand new. BMW fired the manufacturer after squeezing them on the price. So what ever they did to meet BMW's price point was a problem.

I'll be keeping whatever jack is sent but everyone will indeed get a tech write up with steps and o-ring sizes. I've done several. PM me if you'd like to donate one or more to the cause.

Looking forward to the writeup, particularly tips on sourcing the right o-rings. I rebuilt mine after making an absolute plague of myself at the friendly local hydraulic shop, where they must've spent 45 min digging through racks of o-rings looking for ones that were the same as the ones I brought in. They got it close, and I successfully rebuilt the jack, but I think some of the o-rings must've been a hair too big and the jack was stiff as all get out.

So I pitched it, after saving the yoke. A friend here welded the LR yoke onto the top of a Tractor Supply bottle jack, and it works great. Would not want to put a regular flat-topped bottle jack under the round LR axle. At all.

But would love to get a stock jack again--being able to telescope reach that far without having to screw out the extension (which is how the TS jack works) is pretty sweet.

So how about removing the Y bracket on the top of the jack and just adding that to another jack?

I don't know if it screws on? Figured i would ask before messing with it.

Anyone tried to rebuild a LR jack? I always liked mine until it puked its guts up; I keep thinking about trying to rebuild it but just have too many other distractions to mess around with it.
Yes done mine. A half dozen or so O rings and one piston seal. The O rings are easy to source, the piston seal not so easy. I went to a hydraulic shop and they found a fit for about $10, all in all about $20 for everything. Works like new again.

Yes a write up on this would be awesome, as I have two sitting around that I keep telling myself I will figure out how to fix...

Write up is pending receipt of donated jack. There's been one offer so far. If someone else wants to do the write up then be my guest.

First time I had a flat I faced the same problem, jack was empty. Luckily I had a bottle of ACE fluid in the truck. Kind of expensive but it worked.

This. I'm trying to picture where on a Rover I'd feel comfortable placing a standard bottle jack and I'm coming up empty.
If I ever replace my factory jack I'll be making/buying a cradle adapter for a standard bottle jack.

Its really not a big deal to get it up in the air and then stick a jack stand under it (should be doing this with ANY jack). Its what I do in the garage. The downside is carrying around more hardware.

There are a few adapters out there, unfortunately cost more than the jack.
