What makes Tactical Rovers suck, besides the name? I've seen their front bumper and sliders in person and they are actually quite nice. The sliders are especially well designed. They aren't just some 2x2 welded to some C channel In some dudes garage. They fit better than any I've seen.

And I think their name is dumb.

Because I have e-mailed them 3 times and called twice and can't get them to return a message to save my life. They look decent, but if it is that hard to get them to take my money, then something over there sucks. Be it their sales person, voicemail system, or spam preferences.

search for threads on KVT, I do not think he has built anything for a long time. I think he still owes a few folks.

Oh yeah I know, I was only kidding about the down payment.

The guy at Casey Customs said he could build a bumper exactly like that one for 850. But I can't even find a bad thread about him, much less a good one.

Yep, this is what happens when most folks try to build their own.

What the hell are you talking about that second one looks totally fine. I guess if it was POS like an Equippe but had at 5k price tag you be all up on it huh?

Well that's a pretty good reason.

$850 seems steep considering you're providing the brush bar.

I havent spoken to Eric in about a year, but when I did he told me that his partner had left so it was just him doing everything.
Ive heard some of the LR3/LR4 guys talking about their new Tactical bumpers, so Im assuming hes still around?

No he would be building the brush bar too, I'm in NC he is in Portland. That's gonna be a bitch to ship. I asked him for some references. Never heard of the guy and I can't find anything on a search either.

Yeah the only time I ever got someone on the phone was after I did some digging on the company to try and find an alternate phone number and I got the guy that left. Said he was no longer a part of the business and gave me the same number they never answer.

Besides the incessant noise they make, what's so terrible about them?
What's so good about them?
How are they better than four bolts holding the ring to the backing plate behind the bumper? At least, with four bolts you know the breaking strength and safety factor within an easy 50%, and don't have to think about what lurks behind that layer of glossy black paint.

While I dont agree or disagree. By that logic why don't you just glue them with panel adhesive? We had a 3M rep in the shop once and he put his new panel glue up aganist a welded panel on the frame machine and we had a very good welder on hand and the weld broke long before the panel even tore leaving the glued section intact.

I think you know the answer to your question, and why it is largely rhetorical.

When something is welded it can rip and tear without warning.

In a recovery situation that's not ideal.

With four bolts, the bolts will stretch before breaking. You at least have some warning. It's a safer, better way of doing things. Not to mention those D-rings used on the pictured bumper are made for strapping something down and not for a dynamic load recovery.

I'll leave it to the engineers to explain why a static load is different from a dynamic load.

Shit, I agree with Chapman. Just take our word that those weld-on rings are not the way to go.

Or ignore it and post the pics if it lets go and plants itself in someone's head.

you where bashing the tacicool rover buttheads before, search for the tread about the swivel hoists they used for recovery points and learn about a proper recovery point…the catcher mask man is right a torsional loads will deform the hoop

The 3m stuff is unreal when it comes to strength...
